    Job DescriptionJob Description

    We are seeking motivated and reliable individuals to join our Underground HDD Construction team in a variety of roles, including laborers, locators, operators, and foremen. This position supports all phases of horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and underground fiber installation, including plowing, drilling, locating, and site restoration. The ideal candidate has experience in underground utility work, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work safely in a fast‐paced field environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    Assist with all aspects of HDD drilling operations, including setup, mud mixing, drill rod handling, and site cleanup.

    Operate or assist with plowing, trenching, and underground construction equipment.

    Perform utility locating for drill paths using locating equipment to ensure safe and accurate bore routes.

    Support fiber optic installation, including pulling, placing, and handling fiber in conduit or direct‐bury applications.

    Read and interpret maps, prints, and job layouts to support drilling and plowing operations.

    Maintain a clean and safe job site, following all company and OSHA safety standards.

    Assist with restoration work, including backfilling, compaction, and surface repair.

    Communicate effectively with the drill operator, foreman, and crew to ensure efficient workflow.

    Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.

    Qualifications

    Experience in HDD, underground utilities, fiber installation, or construction preferred but not required.

    Ability to use or learn locating equipment (DigiTrak, Subsite, etc.).

    Valid driver’s license required; CDL is a plus.

    Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

    Strong teamwork, communication, and problem‐solving skills.

    Willingness to travel to job sites as needed.

    Job DescriptionJob Description

    Freedom Construction Inc. is looking for a Fiber Optic Splicer to join our team!

    Duties

    -Splice fiber optic cables including both loose and ribbon cables

    - Operate technical equipment, including but not limited to computer, OTDR, power meters, and fusion splicing equipment.

    -Re-entry enclosures with active live fiber

    - Reading and interpreting documents and splicing matrix

    - Construct proper splice cases and fiber termination panels.
    - Perform splicing and installation of fiber optic cables in both aerial and underground settings

    - Troubleshoot and perform maintenance to resolve signal issues
    - Utilize bucket trucks to access and work on telecommunication lines
    - Operate bucket trucks to transport materials and equipment to job sites
    - Conduct field service visits to troubleshoot and repair fiber optic connections
    - Splice fiber optic cables using specialized equipment and techniques
    - Install, terminate, and test low-voltage cables for data and telecommunications systems
    - Collaborate with field teams to meet project deadlines safely and efficiently
    - Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while working at heights or in hazardous environments, including using signs, cones, and other safety equipment while on work sites

    - Lift and manipulate splice enclosures as well as other plant equipment

    - Have the ability to read splice and test results

    -Must provide timely reports to office administration

    Preferred skills but not required.
    - Proficient in the operation of bucket trucks for accessing telecommunication lines and work heights while maintaining safety standards
    - Knowledge of telecommunications systems, including telephone networks and IT infrastructure
    - Familiarity with low-voltage cable installation, termination, and testing procedures
    - Competency in using specialized equipment for fiber optic cable splicing

    Must be willing to travel throughout the surrounding areas

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $15.00 - $30.00 per hour

    Expected hours: 40 per week

    Schedule:

    Wausau, WI: Relocate before starting work (Required)
