The System Quality Assurance (SQA) Engineer for Battery Pack Manufacturing will be a critical member of our team, responsible for ensuring the highest quality, reliability, and safety of our battery packs and their associated manufacturing processes. This role involves developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive quality strategies, test plans, and complete procedures for battery packs. The SQA Engineer will work closely with design, battery manufacturing, and production teams to identify and mitigate risks, ensure compliance with stringent automotive and battery industry standards, and drive continuous improvement in our state-of-the-art battery pack plant.
What you'll do
Develop, implement, and execute comprehensive quality assurance plans and test strategies for assembled battery packs, covering all stages of the manufacturing process.Design and perform various types of testing, including functional, performance, durability, safety, thermal management, electrical characteristic, and environmental testing, to validate battery pack integrity and performance.Ensure adherence to relevant industry standards and regulations such as IATF 16949, ISO 26262 (functional safety), UN 38.3, UL, SAE standards, and other regional automotive and battery safety requirements.Collaborate with manufacturing engineering to define in-process quality gates, inspection points, and end-of-line (EOL) testing requirements for battery pack assembly.Develop and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks for manufacturing test equipment, including Battery Management System (BMS) software validation, cell/module characterization, and pack-level testing.Analyze test data, manufacturing process data, and field performance data to identify trends, potential failure modes, and root causes of defects in battery packs.Utilize statistical process control (SPC) and other quality tools to monitor manufacturing processes and ensure product consistency.Work closely with design, product development, and supplier quality teams to provide feedback on battery pack design for manufacturability, testability, and reliability.Participate in Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Control Plan development, and other quality planning activities for new battery pack programs and process changes.Manage non-conformance reports, initiate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and verify the effectiveness of implemented solutions.Contribute to the continuous improvement of SQA processes, methodologies, and tools within the battery plant.Stay abreast of the latest advancements in battery technology, manufacturing techniques, and quality assurance practices.You'll have:
Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, Materials science, chemical engineering, or a related technical field.Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in a Quality Assurance or SQA role within a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive, battery, or power electronics.Even better, you'll have:

BlueOval Battery Park Michigan will produce the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells to power the next-generation Ford EV passenger vehicles and trucks under development. What you'll do
• Be responsible to identify, rectify, improve, and maintain the electrical components and fault conditions.
• Program machinery and related equipment utilizing Siemens PLC programming, SP700 and other PLC programming software to monitor, diagnose faults, and modify equipment programs.
• Manage the selection, procurement, and inventory of electrical spare parts.
• Understand the applications of various sensors, flowmeters, liquid level meters, etc.
• Conduct fault analysis, identify the root causes, and take measures to prevent recurrence of similar issues.
• Conduct electrical training for subordinate technicians, share problem solving experience, and enhance the team's overall competence.
• Maintain cycle times on equipment ensuring stands are running at or below authorized cycle time.
• Support feasibility on product design changes and lead modifications and model code updates as required.
• Assist team members with calibration of test stand instrumentation per schedule.
• Ability to work various shifts and hours, including weekends.
• Ability to travel extensively, including internationally.
You'll have
• 3-5 years relevant professional experience
• Bachelor's degree or above, major in electrical automation, mechatronics, etc.
• Familiarity with the automotive manufacturing and/or batter cell manufacturing.
• Proficient in PLC (such as Omron and Siemens).
• Proficiency with the working principle of robot and servo controls.
• Establish preventive maintenance plans for equipment's electrical aspects and organize technicians to implement them punctually.
• Have experience in the control modes and interactions between servo system, frequency conversion system and upper computer, and can configure parameters appropriately according to the corresponding loads.
