    Physician Assistant – Rural Hospital (Solo Provider)
    Position Type: Full-Time independent contractor


    Overview

    We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to serve as the solo provider in a critical access, rural hospital environment. This role is ideal for a highly capable, confident PA who can independently deliver high-quality emergency and acute care with limited onsite resources. The provider will manage the Emergency Department and support inpatient needs as appropriate.


    This role encompasses multiple hospital ER locations throughout Texas.



    Key Responsibilities

    Serve as the solo ER provider, delivering comprehensive emergency medical care to patients of all ages.Perform rapid assessment, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment for a full spectrum of emergency presentations.Coordinate care with remote or on-call physicians when necessary, following established hospital protocols.Manage patient flow efficiently, including triage, documentation, and disposition.Provide ongoing evaluation and medical decision-making for admitted patients within scope of practice.Order, interpret, and act on laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other diagnostics.Perform essential emergency procedures and interventions as required.Communicate effectively with nursing staff, ancillary teams, and outside facilities to ensure continuity of care.Maintain accurate, timely medical records in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards.


    Required Qualifications

    Active, unrestricted Physician Assistant license (state-specific).Minimum of 1–2 years of solo ER provider experience in a rural, critical access, or similarly resource-limited setting.


    Current certifications:ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support)ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)


    DEA registration and state-specific prescriptive authority.Strong procedural competency, including airway management, trauma stabilization, suturing, splinting, and emergency interventions.Proven ability to work autonomously with sound clinical judgment in high-acuity situations.


    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience with telemedicine physician backup or remote physician consultation workflows.Previous work in frontier or underserved communities.Familiarity with critical access hospital operations.


    Key Competencies

    Excellent critical-thinking and independent decision-making skills.Confidence in managing undifferentiated patients across all ages and acuity levels.Strong communication and teamwork.Ability to adapt to variable patient volumes typical of rural emergency settings.
