    Job Title: Field Engineer II Locations: Chicago, IL (Near O'Hare airport) Los Angeles, CA (Downtown) Ashburn, VA Overview: The Field Engineer II is responsible for leading on-site deployment, installation, and maintenance of telecom infrastructure. This role combines advanced technical expertise with hands-on leadership, ensuring efficient service delivery, timely fault resolution, and the continuous development of field engineering standards. Acting as both a technical authority and a mentor, the Field Engineer II plays a key role in driving quality, performance, and innovation across all field operations. Core Responsibilities: Field Operations & Maintenance Deliver first-line maintenance and support for a diverse customer network base. Carry out installation, commissioning, and testing tasks across both project and maintenance environments. Respond to service calls promptly to ensure all Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are consistently achieved. Participate in on-call rotations and provide out-of-hours support as scheduled. Keep the Global Support Desk and management teams informed on intervention progress and on-site developments. Submit all required reports, forms, and documentation accurately and within defined timeframes. Technical Delivery & Leadership Lead troubleshooting activities and resolve complex technical faults, coordinating with Network Operations Centers (NOCs) where needed. Provide on-site guidance, technical leadership, and quality assurance for field engineers. Define and enforce field quality installation standards, ensuring compliance with engineering best practices. Supervise internal teams and external partners to maintain high-quality installation outcomes. Manage and review Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS) and ensure site safety compliance. Conduct quality audits, identify non-conformances, and oversee corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives. Installation & Commissioning Perform installation of metalwork, containment systems, and equipment racks. Handle fibre and copper cabling tasks, including pulling, dressing, labeling, terminations, and continuity testing. Execute electrical connectivity tasks involving both AC (240V) and DC (-48V) systems (excluding power-up prior to certification). Support field commissioning and network activation through advanced testing and diagnostic procedures (OTDR, Ethernet/OSA testing, etc.). Produce detailed, accurate project documentation and maintain all engineering records. Project Ownership & Mentorship Take ownership of assigned projects as the lead engineer, serving as the primary escalation point for technical issues. Collaborate closely with Project Managers, occasionally assisting with basic project management tasks. Deliver hands-on training and coaching to junior engineers through practical lab sessions and on-site mentoring. Conduct Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) and Site Visit Safety Assessments (SVSAs) as required. Additional Responsibilities Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, customers, and partners. Ensure all company and industry standards, safety protocols, and engineering procedures are strictly followed. Uphold the highest professional standards and represent the organization with integrity and technical competence. Demonstrate flexibility in adapting to business priorities and operational demands. Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications Requirements: Extensive experience in constructing telecom infrastructure from design through to delivery, adhering to quality standards. Proven expertise in network commissioning, including complex testing, troubleshooting, and fault diagnosis. Strong mentoring and leadership abilities, with a proactive, solutions-driven mindset.     Level 2 Field Technician Locations: Chicago, IL; Ashburn, VA; Los Angeles, CA (downtown) & New York Compensation: $75,000-$85,000 Requirements: Must have own vehicle (vehicle allowance & mileage provided) Overview The Level 2 Field Technician provides advanced field support for network installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting across multiple technologies. This role requires hands-on experience with Ciena, Cisco, and Juniper platforms, as well as strong skills in fiber installation, AC/DC power, and equipment racking. Key Responsibilities 24/7 Technical Support Deliver round-the-clock technical support as part of an escalation rotation. Respond promptly to network issues, outages, and incident notifications. Installation, Cabling & Wiring Perform equipment installation, cabling, and wiring to meet industry and customer standards. Install grounding equipment and infrastructure per customer specifications. Build cages and install equipment in customer and data center environments. Execute full rack builds and organize equipment layouts. Required Skills & Experience Technical Expertise Hands-on experience with optical transmission equipment (e.g., Ciena, Infinera). Strong fiber skills: patching, scoping, cleaning, lacing, and OPM usage. Working knowledge of configuring and supporting Cisco and Juniper routers and switches. Power & Data Center Skills Experience working with/testing AC and DC power systems. Background in data center and customer-premises installations. Troubleshooting & Networking Ability to diagnose issues using test equipment such as LSPM and fiber tools. Familiarity with Cisco/Juniper CPE devices, including console access and remote troubleshooting. General Skills Basic understanding of both Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP) environments. Proven experience in Installation & Commissioning (I&C), network builds, and equipment turn-up. Strong PC skills, especially Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools.
