Position Summary
The Staff Accountant supports the accounting and financial operations of a commercial real estate portfolio. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting tenant billing and collections, assisting with month‑end close activities, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and audit requirements. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, collaborative, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced commercial real estate environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts Receivable & Tenant Billing
Manage accounts receivable functions, including cash receipts, billing, and posting of monthly rent chargesMaintain accurate tenant ledgers and perform regular tenant account reconciliationsPrepare and review monthly billings, including CAM, operating expense billbacks, and other recoverable chargesCalculate and bill annual recoveries in accordance with lease provisionsPrepare for and participate in monthly delinquency meetings
Cash Management & Bank Reconciliations
Maintain daily check logs and process daily bank depositsAssist with monthly bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies as neededResearch and process tenant reconciliation disputesEnsure timely and accurate recording of all cash activityProcess weekly bank reconciliations to ensure accurate cash reporting
Audit & Close Support
Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processesResearch and process tenant account auditsParticipate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance requiredAccounting experience in commercial real estate preferred
Skills & Competencies
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft ExcelExperience with Yardi software strongly preferredHigh attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skillsAbility to manage deadlines and multiple priorities in a deadline‑driven environmentStrong work ethic with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a teamClear and professional written and verbal communication skills
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit and work at a desk for extended periods performing accounting and administrative tasksAbility to use a computer, keyboard, and standard office equipment regularlyAbility to attend in‑office meetings and collaborate with team members onsite
