Job Title: Technical Design Specialist
Location: Athens, TN
Wage: $20.00 – $24.00 per hour (DOE)
Job Type: Full-Time
About Us
At Big Ridge Outdoor Living, we are a custom manufacturing shop built on a simple philosophy: we build integrated teams, not isolated specialists. We specialize in creating luxury outdoor living structures that define the high-end outdoor lifestyle. We believe true craftsmanship comes from understanding every step of the build process, from the first digital line drawn in SketchUp to the final piece of trim installed in the field.
We don't hire egos or divas who only want to stay in their lane; we hire dedicated, cross-trained Artisans who take as much pride in a perfectly accurate digital drawing as they do in the final weld. We are building a resilient, high-quality production floor right here in Athens, TN, and we want people who are hungry to learn it all—from the screen to the shop floor.
The Role: Simple, Accurate, and Fast
We’ve tried the "big-room engineering" approach with complicated software, and it isn't for us. We are looking for a Technical Design Specialist who is exceptionally skilled with computers and knows or can learn how to use SketchUp to get things done efficiently. We will train the right candidate.
You will be the bridge between our sales team and the shop floor. Your job isn’t to over-engineer; it’s to create clean, simple 3D drawings that ensure our luxury structures are safe, buildable, and exactly what the customer ordered.
What You’ll Do
Sales Support: Create straightforward SketchUp drawings based on customer feedback to help our sales team close luxury deals.Production Hand-off: Translate those designs into clear shop floor drawings for our plant personnel. Accuracy is everything.CNC Support: We use Fusion for our CNC. It’s simple, and we can teach you our specific workflow in a few days. You’ll be responsible for the digital outputs that keep the machines running.Continuous Innovation: We are constantly upgrading our shop. You will be the first to learn and master new equipment software as we add Laser CNCs, CNC Brakes, and other high-tech machinery.R&D & Manuals: Help us develop new products and create "easy-to-read" assembly and instruction manuals (think Lego-style simplicity).
What We’re Looking For
Computer Whiz: You navigate software naturally and solve tech problems without being asked.SketchUp Proficiency: You are comfortable, fast, and accurate in SketchUp or demonstrate willingness to learn. The "Anti-Over-Engineer": You take pride in making complex things simple. You’d rather find a 5-minute solution than a 5-hour one.Eager Learner: You don’t need to know Laser CNCs or CNC Brakes today—you just need to be excited to master them as we grow.Local Talent: You are reliable and ready to work on-site at our Athens facility.

Location: Athens, TN Job Type: Full-Time
Compensation & The Path to Top Pay:
$19.00 - $24.00 / Hour + Uncapped Growth Potential. We operate a true meritocracy where you are the master of your own destiny. Your pay is directly tied to the skills you master. Experienced master fabricators capable of advanced tasks (such as CNC operation, robotic programming, and MIG welding) can step immediately into the top of our new-hire range ($24.00/hr).
The $19.00 - $24.00/hr band is just your starting line. We do not place arbitrary salary caps on top performers. Prove your worth, increase our efficiency, and bring innovative ideas to the floor, and your compensation will scale directly with the value you add.
About the Opportunity:
Are you a builder, a maker, and a master of your craft? Are you tired of standing in the exact same spot, turning the same wrench, or putting on the same bolt every single day in a traditional factory?
At Big Ridge Outdoor Living (Fenix Group), we operate differently. We are a rapidly growing Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and retailer of ultra-high-end, luxury outdoor living products. We don't operate a monotonous assembly line; we run a dynamic production studio where raw materials are transformed into elite outdoor environments. We are currently seeking top-tier Welder Fabricators who want to build a career, grow with a thriving company, and be part of something much bigger than themselves. We promote strictly from within, and your upward trajectory is limited only by your drive to learn.
The "No Standing Still" Philosophy (Cross-Training):
We believe in building well-rounded master craftspeople, not assembly-line robots. Our production system is highly unique: every team member learns to execute every position. You will be systematically cross-trained across our entire state-of-the-art facility. One day you may be fabricating structural steel; the next, you might be executing high-precision polishing on premium granite, or programming fabrication robots. This dynamic workflow ensures you remain versatile, flexible, constantly moving, and never bored.
What You Will Do:
As a Production Artisan, you will handle a diverse array of premium materials and utilize advanced tooling to build luxury structures from the ground up. Your responsibilities will rotate and include:
· Structural Fabrication & Welding: Safely and expertly operate heavy power tools, saws, and execute precise MIG welding to cut, shape, and assemble rigid steel structural frameworks.
· Advanced Automation & Machining: Program and operate advanced manufacturing technology, including precision CNC machinery and robotic fabrication systems.
· Architectural Finishing: Masterfully apply high-grade PVC siding, stone, and architectural cladding to steel structures, ensuring a flawless aesthetic finish.
· Drawing Translation: Read, interpret, and build directly from basic structural drawings.
What You Must Have (The Non-Negotiables):
While experience in all of our specific materials is ideal, we will heavily train the right individuals who possess raw mechanical aptitude. However, to be considered, you must demonstrate:
· Welding/Fabricating: You must be able to fabricate steel frames by reading prints, fixturing frames, and mig welding efficiently. Minimum of 1 year demonstrated experience required.
· Uncompromising Precision: You must be able to accurately visualize how complex parts fit together and align in three-dimensional space and read a tape measure down to 1/16” increments. In the luxury market, every fraction of an inch matters.
· Tool Mastery: Proven experience operating saws, grinders, and various heavy power tools safely and effectively.
· Technical Literacy: The ability to read and accurately interpret basic manufacturing drawings.
We Hire Your Heart and Mind, Not Just Your Hands:
We are building a culture of relentless excellence. We expect every team member to operate like an owner. You will be expected to actively identify production bottlenecks and willingly contribute innovative ideas to enhance workplace safety, elevate product quality, maximize productivity, and reduce costs. Your voice will be heard, and your intellectual contributions will directly drive our company forward.
Who This Role is NOT For:
We are highly protective of our team culture. Please do NOT apply if:
· You prefer standing in one place doing the exact same repetitive task every day.
· You are looking for a place to simply "clock in and clock out" without mentally engaging in your work.
· You are resistant to learning new skills or cross-training in different departments.
· You are solely motivated by a paycheck and have no desire to take pride in building a world-class, luxury product.
If you are a true professional ready to elevate your craft and grow with an elite brand, apply today.
