    Position Purpose The Chemist will conduct analytical testing and laboratory operations to ensure the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance in pet food manufacturing. This role requires strong expertise in classical wet chemistry, instrumental analysis, and regulatory compliance, with an emphasis on nutritional, contaminant, and safety testing. The Chemist will serve as the technical expert, supporting method development, staff training, and implementation of advanced analytical instrumentation. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or related field (Master's preferred). Must be flexible to cover other shifts and stay over as needed, including: 1st Shift 5am to 2pm 2nd Shift 2pm to 10pm 3rd Shift 10pm to 6am Shift times and structure may change as business needs require. Minimum 5 years of laboratory experience in food, feed, or pet food testing with increasing responsibility. Proficiency in wet chemistry techniques and operation of analytical instruments (NIR, spectrophotometer, ICP, UPLC). Strong knowledge of nutritional, contaminant, and microbiological testing methods. Experience with method development, validation, and regulatory compliance. Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to supervise and train laboratory staff. Strong analytical problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. Preferred: HACCP certification and PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification. Work Environment Laboratory and production plant environment. Must be able to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. Exposure to laboratory chemicals, heat, and standard lab hazards. Key Responsibilities Perform and oversee routine testing for ash, protein, fat, fiber, moisture, and peroxide values using traditional AOAC methods. Conduct and validate testing using Soxhlet extraction, Kjeldahl analysis, fiber extraction, muffle furnace, titrations, and polarimetry. Apply aseptic sampling techniques, incubation, autoclaving, and microbiological assays (including mycotoxin analysis and VIDAS). Operate and maintain advanced laboratory equipment such as NIR spectrometer, ICP-AES, and UPLC systems. Lead implementation of ICP-AES for heavy metals and mineral analysis, and UPLC for vitamins and amino acid profiling. Ensure laboratory practices comply with GLP (Good Laboratory Practices), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), HACCP, and FSMA guidelines. Prepare, review, and approve test results, analytical reports, and Certificates of Analysis. Train and mentor laboratory staff on methods, equipment, and regulatory requirements. Investigate analytical deviations, identify root causes, and implement corrective/preventive actions. Support R D and Quality Assurance teams with method validation, product formulation testing, and troubleshooting. Maintain laboratory safety programs, calibration schedules, and inventory of reagents/standards.     Position Purpose

    The Material Operator - Frozen is responsible for the handling, preparation, and distribution of frozen raw materials within the plant. This role ensures that frozen materials are efficiently and accurately staged, transported, and delivered to production areas while adhering to safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.

    Requirements

    1st Shift hours are Monday through Friday 6am to 2pm. There may be times where overtime and weekend work may be required.2nd Shift hours will be 2pm to 10pm Monday through Friday. . There may be times where overtime and weekend work may be required.Shift hours and times are subject to change as business needs require.

    Education and Experience:

    High school diploma or equivalent.Previous experience in material handling, warehouse operations, or manufacturing is preferred.Experience handling frozen or temperature-sensitive materials is a plus.

    Skills and Competencies:

    Strong attention to detail for accurate material handling and inventory tracking.Ability to work effectively in cold storage environments.Basic math and computer skills for recordkeeping and inventory management.Good communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with production and warehouse teams.

    Certifications (Preferred):

    Forklift Operator Certification or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.HACCP or GMP training is preferred but not required.


    Work Environment:

    Frequent work in cold storage conditions, including extended periods in freezers or temperature-controlled environments.Exposure to manufacturing and warehouse environments with noise, dust, and other industrial conditions.Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.

    Key Responsibilities

    Material Handling and Preparation:Safely handle frozen raw materials, including the loading and unloading of materials from storage to production staging areas.Prepare frozen materials according to production requirements, including thawing or staging processes as needed.Ensure all materials are handled with care to prevent damage or contamination.Distribution to Production Areas:Transport frozen materials to production areas on schedule to ensure uninterrupted operations.Verify quantities and ensure the correct materials are delivered based on production orders.Collaborate with production staff to prioritize material deliveries as required.Inventory Management:Track and document the movement of frozen materials between storage and production areas.Conduct regular inventory counts to maintain accurate stock levels of frozen materials.Report any discrepancies or material shortages to supervisors promptly.Safety and Compliance:Follow all plant safety procedures, including the proper use of PPE and compliance with handling protocols for frozen materials.Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety guidelines.Maintain cleanliness and organization in frozen material storage and handling areas to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards.Equipment Operation and Maintenance:Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment to move frozen materials safely and efficiently.Perform pre-operational checks on equipment and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs.Documentation and Reporting:Maintain accurate records of frozen material usage, movement, and inventory.Complete required documentation for production and inventory systems.Communicate material quality concerns, equipment issues, or other challenges to supervisors.Support for Production and Warehouse Operations:Assist with general warehouse duties, including organizing storage areas and supporting team efforts to optimize workflows.Participate in cross-functional training and support other material handling tasks as needed.

Implement innovative sales strategies and marketing concepts to achieve assigned sales goals and key performance indicators (KPIs). Engage with existing and potential clients to create customized, brand-building sales and marketing programs that drive product volume and market penetration. Stay updated on market trends, competitor activities, and customer preferences to identify growth opportunities. Develop and execute strategic business plans within the assigned territory to expand the company's presence and market share. Collaborate with regional teams, distributor channels, and counterparts nationwide to ensure consistent messaging and support for clients. Travel within the defined territory with a consistent 6–8-week sales cycle, including overnight travel. Provide top-tier customer service to veterinarian hospitals using a consultative selling approach. Identify the specific business needs of veterinary clinics within the territory and offer tailored recommendations and solutions. Cultivate strong business relationships with key decision-makers, veterinarians, and other stakeholders to gain active endorsements of Farmina Pet Food products. Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of Farmina's pet food products, including their nutritional benefits and unique selling points. Offer nutritional expertise to veterinarians and their staff through clinic calls, product detailing/comparisons, in-hospital training, and special events.
