    Position: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – TEMPORARY – Disaster Shelter Support

    Location: Emergency Shelter, Monroe County, Georgia, and other designated zones as per contract requirements

    Employment Type: Temporary/Contract Basis

    Job Summary

    The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will provide essential nursing services within the emergency shelter facilities operated under the Georgia Department of Public Health Emergency Preparedness program. Operating under the supervision of the Charge Nurse, the role includes but is not limited to technical nursing duties and assisting other healthcare professionals in delivering care to all individuals at the shelter. Compliance with all state and federal regulations within the scope of practice is mandatory.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Patient Care:

    - Perform patient assessments and monitor their vital signs, reporting any changes to supervisory staff.

    - Provide technical nursing care, including wound care, administering medications, and assisting with mobility.

    - Assist in the development and implementation of patient care plans in collaboration with RNs, APRNs, physicians, and other healthcare providers.

    - Offer assistance to patients based on individual needs, ensuring all care provided aligns with established medical protocols.

    Triage & Assessment:

    - Conduct preliminary assessments and determine the necessity and urgency of further medical attention.

    - Collect and document patient health histories and pertinent information for further medical review.

    Compliance and Quality Assurance:

    - Adhere to and ensure compliance with all state and federal healthcare regulations.

    - Participate in quality assurance initiatives to continuously improve patient care quality and service delivery.

    - Address and report any performance issues or patient care complaints on time.

    Documentation:

    - Maintain accurate and thorough patient records, including medical history, treatment plans, and care progress.

    - Ensure timely submission of patient care documentation and reports as required by the Department and the Prime Contractor.

    Onboarding and Training:

    - Complete just-in-time orientation/training provided by the facility representative upon arrival at the assignment.

    - Participate in ongoing education and training sessions to stay updated on current best practices in nursing care.

    Collaboration and Communication:

    - Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care.

    - Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and the healthcare team regarding treatment plans and care updates.

    Shift Assignments:

    - Fulfill scheduled shift duties as determined by the Department's Office of Nursing Representative, which may include 8 or 12-hour shifts.

    - Be prepared to hold over at the end of the shift if nursing resources are below the minimum mandatory staffing levels until replacement coverage arrives.

    Qualifications

    Licensure:

    - Current, unencumbered License to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Georgia or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.

    Experience:

    - A minimum of 1 year of nursing experience is required.

    Skills:

    - Patient assessment and basic nursing care proficient.

    - Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds, push and pull objects, and stand for extended periods.

    - Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

    Certification:

    - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements

    - Ability to work in an emergency shelter setting.

    - Capable of managing high-stress situations and adapting to changing patient needs.

    - Physically able to operate and manage medical equipment as necessary.

    Reporting

    - Directly reports to the Charge Nurse or designated supervisory staff at the emergency shelter.

    - Maintain regular communication with the Prime Contractor, Acuity International, and subcontractor, Sterling Medical.

    Deliverables

    - Ensure timely and accurate submission of all required documentation and reports.

    - Adhere to the staffing schedule, including any amendments or changes therein.

    - Respond promptly to requests from the Department within the stipulated timeframes.

    Responsibilities
