Position Overview
This role serves as a primary estimator for fire alarm and electrical services. Duties include estimating projects, supporting administrative tasks, and communicating with customers and technicians.
Strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and technical knowledge of local fire alarm codes are required. The position helps maintain a positive work culture, encourages collaboration and accountability, and supports team and division growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Project Analysis: Review construction drawings, specifications, and related documents to understand the scope of work, fire alarm system requirements, and project parameters.Site Surveys: Conduct on-site inspections and surveys as needed to assess existing conditions and verify the needs for new or upgraded fire alarm systems.Estimation and Proposal Creation: Develop detailed cost estimates, proposals, and bid documents for fire alarm installation, retrofit, maintenance, and service contracts. Break down all project components including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, permits, and overhead.Code Compliance: Ensure all estimates are in accordance with applicable fire codes, local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and national standards such as NFPA 72.Vendor and Supplier Coordination: Request and review quotes from vendors and suppliers, evaluate options for cost effectiveness, and ensure timely acquisition of materials and equipment.Client Consultation: Meet with clients, general contractors, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to discuss project requirements, present proposals, and clarify scope questions.Value Engineering: Identify opportunities for cost savings and propose alternative solutions or technologies that maintain compliance and system integrity.Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all estimates, proposals, change orders, correspondence, and project documentation.Collaboration with Sales and Operations: Work closely with sales representatives, project managers, and installation teams to ensure estimate accuracy and smooth project transitions from bid to execution.Budget and Timeline Management: Estimate project durations and costs, assisting the company and clients in forecasting budgets and schedules.Project Management: Assist with project management as required by Alarm Division Manager.Continuous Improvement: Stay current with fire alarm technologies, industry trends, code changes, and advanced estimating practices to improve accuracy and competitiveness.

Requirements
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.Minimum of 3 years of experience in estimating fire alarm systems, electrical systems, or low-voltage construction projects.Strong working knowledge of fire alarm system components, installation methods, and applicable codes and standards (e.g., NFPA 72).Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings.Experience with estimation software and tools such as Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or comparable platforms.Familiarity with permitting processes and regulatory requirements.Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.This is a safety sensitive position and will be subject to post accident, reasonable suspicion or contract required drug testing.
