    Job DescriptionJob Description

    The Tooling Engineer will facilitate the fabrication of stamping tools for E&E’s Athens facility. This position will include input into the conceptual design of tooling and process selection, project management of tooling fabrication, and implementation of tooling into the manufacturing processes. Ensures compliance with E&E quality systems, policies, procedures, and best practices, as well as all local, state, federal and E&E safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

    Work with internal and external tooling vendors in the design of stamping tools, to include station development, forming of high precision, tight tolerance metal parts, and design fixtures and jigsLeads complex tooling projects from conception through production start-up; coordinates official tool milestone completion in accordance with E&E Critical Path, including tool delivery and material receipt to E&EWork with tooling suppliers on schedules, tool design reviews, process selection, and project implementationReview product designs and make recommendations on tooling projects to ensure they are designed for manufacturability, efficiency, and cost-savingsParticipate in tool design reviews and ensure they are conducted in accordance with E&E guidelines and adhere to E&E design and build standardsCoordinates with E&E simulation team for design for manufacturability and formability on complex or potentially risky parts; when applicable, works with mechanical engineering to optimize part designOversee all record retention for tooling. This will include required follow-up on action items resulting from preliminary tool designs through production startups on both internally designed and built tooling and all sub-contracted workMonitors construction of dies and gauges, ensures tooling vendors are operating to the agreed schedule; ensures projects are delivered on time and within budgetLeads production buy-off (PSO) process for new stamping dies and engineering changesProvide sourcing input for tooling suppliers and interact with them on regular basis to ensure that services meet expectationsMonitor project schedules with tooling suppliers and ensure that projects are completed on time in accordance with master program schedule and according to customer design requirementsWhen applicable, coordinates and leads any project recovery efforts with internal and external tooling vendors to include timing plan, site visits, and process changes; escalates issues as required to management to allow timely response and successful program launchDevelop a business case to support tooling modifications to improve the quality and cost of components and toolingWork with reverse engineering principles and rapid prototype resources as needed.Utilize basic to advanced understanding of dimensioning, tolerance, and inspection practices

    Education/Experience/Certifications:

    To effectively carry out duties and responsibilities in the job position the following education, experience, or certifications are preferred:


    Education: 

    ·         Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field is required

     

    Experience:

    ·         Eight or more years of experience as a Mechanical/Tooling Engineer in an automotive manufacturing environment is required

    ·         Ten or more years of automotive manufacturing experience is strongly preferred

    ·         Certification and/or work experience in a Continuous Improvement environment (Lean, Six Sigma, TPM) is strongly preferred

     

    Additional Skills Required:

    To effectively carry out duties and responsibilities in the job position the following skills are required:

     

    Computer skills:

    ·         Experience with basic computer systems

    ·         Proficient with Microsoft Operating System as well as MS Excel, Word, and Project

     

    Communication skills:

    ·         Speak effectively with fellow employees or customers

    ·         Ability to read, write and converse in English

    ·         Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc.

    ·         Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

     

    Mathematical skills:

    ·         Apply mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as basic algebra

     

    Other Skills:

    ·         Detail oriented

    ·         Organized and able to meet deadlines while performing multiple duties

    ·         Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

    ·         Familiar with APQP disciplines: FMEA, PFMEA, SPC, DOE, PPAP, etc.
