Read more at www.dsv.com Location: USA - Chattanooga, 4513 N Access Rd Division: Road Transport, US Job Posting Title: Driver, Local Time Type: Full Time SUMMARY The Local Truck Driver position based out of Chattanooga, TN, will handle local deliveries within a specific area with care, professionalism, and precision. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Drives semi-tractor/trailers for up to 11 hours after 10 hours off-duty on runs of up to one week or more. * P&D locally * Backs trailers to customer dock. * Maintains compliance with Federal and State safety regulations and safe and professional driving behavior. * Communicates with customer representatives in pleasant, respectful, and efficient manner. * Communicating and coordinating with dispatchers. * Complies with all DOT requirements including drug and alcohol testing (subject to random and reasonable-suspicion drug and alcohol testing). * Securing cargo and properly arranging and balancing it within the vehicle. * Ensure that any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving. * Applies tire chains in inclement weather when required. * Swings and secures trailer doors. * Performs other duties as required. Qualifications & Work Experience * CDL A License Required * A minimum of 2 years CDL A driving experience within the last 4 years. 3+ years CDL A driving experience preferred. * Meet D.O.T. qualification requirements, FMCSR 391.41. * Experience in load securement, route planning, and navigating various road conditions. * Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to handle sensitive cargo with care. * Detail-oriented / mindset required. * Must have a TWIC or eligible to obtain a TWIC card within 90 days, if required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of a truck driver, the employee is required to sit for extended periods while operating a commercial vehicle. The employee must use hands and fingers to operate a steering wheel, controls, GPS devices, and other on-board equipment. The role also requires the ability to reach with hands and arms, climb in and out of the cab and trailer, and occasionally stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch during inspections, coupling/uncoupling, or loading/unloading activities. The employee must be able to communicate effectively using verbal and hearing skills, often via CB radio or mobile devices. Vision requirements include the ability to see at a distance for safe driving, as well as close vision for reading documents, using electronic logs, and performing inspections. Physically able with or without accommodation to: * Frequently carry, push, or pull freight weighing 1-125 pounds * Lifts up to 50 pounds * Frequently reach for freight at waist level and occasionally above shoulder height or below waist level * Shift manual transmission and operate foot pedals, not applicable on all trucks * Frequently squat or crouch to handle and position freight * Climb in and out of over-the-road tractor, 4 to 6 feet, 8 to 10 times daily with assistance of various steps and handholds; occasionally bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching and balancing. * Conduct pre-trip inspection for a tractor and trailer. * Be able to hook/unhook various commercial vehicle combinations, manually lower/raise landing gear, operate the fifth wheel release level, lock/release pintle-hooks, fuel vehicles and check engine oil/coolant levels, perform preventative maintenance. * Must be able to spend at least 5% of day standing and 5% of the day walking on surfaces such as wood, metal and concrete. Surface may sometimes be slippery or wet. * Must be able to reach above shoulder level, at waist level and below waist level for maneuvering and directing the controls to operate the truck. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of a driver, the employee may be exposed to diesel fumes, airborne particles, and occasionally harsh weather conditions while loading or unloading. The work environment includes time spent both inside the truck cab-which may involve extended periods of sitting and exposure to engine noise and vibration-and outside at customer sites, terminals, or on public roadways. Noise levels can vary from quiet inside the cab to moderate or loud at delivery or pick-up locations. For this position, the expected base pay range is 30.50 - 31.50/ Hourly. Quality Control Responsibilities: * The quality control functions include but are not limited to using the appropriate documentation to ensure that all products and orders are received, handled, and shipped correctly. * Associates will verify that products and/or orders meet quality standards, including reporting any damages or discrepancies. * Associates will stack, package, shrink wrap, and label product(s). All quality control functions will be processed as defined by the Standard Operating Procedures. Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance: * All associates are responsible for executing all safety protocols and will accomplish all job tasks in a manner that promotes safety. * Associates are responsible for the cleanliness and orderliness of the facility. Associates must also maintain a clean, neat, orderly work area, and assist in security of the warehouse. * Associates will comply with all Standard Operating Procedures, corporate and site-specific policies, safety rules, and OSHA/MSDS Standards. Equipment Operation: * In performing assigned duties, the equipment used can include but is not limited to: sit-down, stand-up, reach truck, sweeper scrubber, scissor lift, cherry picker, Aisle Master or pallet jack. * Associates are responsible for the upkeep of equipment and reporting of equipment problems. * On a daily basis, associates will inspect and perform minor maintenance on the forklift or other equipment. * Associates will operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods. * Associates must maintain an active forklift certification. Maintenance: * Perform or assist in building, grounds, and equipment maintenance as assigned.
