Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. United States citizenship; non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include: (1) ACGME or AOA‑accredited programs listed for the year of completion; (2) One year of post‑medical‑school training followed by two years of independent practice; or (3) Non‑U.S. residency programs followed by a minimum of three years of independent practice in the United States. Residency Exceptions: Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs and otherwise meeting basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed, cannot act as independent practitioners, and are appointed on an intermittent basis under a defined scope of practice. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements: Applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation, without hazard to themselves or others. Depending on the position, vision, color vision, hearing, or speech may be required; impairments may be compensated with a prosthesis or mechanical aid. Duties Provide consultations (telephone and/or e‑consult) from VA Augusta and associated CBOCs. Interpret non‑invasive diagnostic tests including electrocardiograms, ambulatory rhythm monitor recordings, stress tests, and echocardiograms; supervise administration of echo contrast as needed. Interrogate cardiac devices when properly trained. Participate in inpatient consult service. Participate in on‑call rotation. Work schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with additional coverage per discretion of the Section Chief and/or supervisory alignment. Supervise and educate internal medicine residents and medical students. Provide medical evaluation and direct overall management of patients in collaboration with other health‑care team members. Document and code new and returning cardiac patients in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). Serve as a member of the inter‑disciplinary team delivering comprehensive, efficient, and compassionate high‑quality care in both inpatient and outpatient settings at VA Augusta Health Care System.
