Job Title: NETA Field Technician (Level I – Senior Technician)
Location: Houston, TX (with travel requirements across North America)
A nationally recognized, full-service EPC firm based in Houston, TX is seeking a skilled and experienced NETA Field Technician to join its growing team. This organization specializes in complex medium- and high-voltage electrical infrastructure, providing engineering, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning services across North America.
This position involves hands-on fieldwork including the testing, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high-voltage substation equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in electrical testing and maintenance, along with a solid understanding of industry standards such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA. Title and responsibilities will be commensurate with certification level and professional experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
Perform testing services on power systems and equipment, including:
Protective relays and systems
Circuit breakers
Power and instrument transformers
Power system metering (meters, transducers, etc.)
Power cables
Grounding systems
Motors and starters
Station batteries and chargers
Alarm systems and annunciators
Personal protective equipment
Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment failures and performance issues
Recommend corrective actions and repairs
Create detailed technical reports on testing procedures, findings, and recommended solutions
Maintain clear communication with clients and internal teams
Coordinate with project management on scheduling manpower and equipment
Adhere to strict safety standards—safety is a top organizational priority
Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Proficiency in PowerDB software is a plus
Strong knowledge of AC/DC electrical fundamentals
Familiarity with high-voltage substation components and systems
Understanding of protection and control systems
Knowledge of electrical and structural codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, AISC, ACI)
Experience with electrical system drawings and drafting standards
Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and solve technical issues
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative approach
Education & Experience:
NETA Certification (Level II, III, or IV) is required
Associate degree in Electrical or Electronics Technology, or equivalent industry experience
Minimum of 2+ years in the high-voltage electrical field
Additional Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
Physical examination required
Must be open to travel (minimum 50%)
Valid driver's license and clean driving record required

EPC Substation Estimator

A nationally recognized full-service EPC firm specializing in complex medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure across North America is seeking a professional and experienced EPC Substation Estimator to join its team in Houston, TX.
Position Summary:
The EPC Substation Estimator will be responsible for estimating a wide range of transmission, distribution, and substation electrical construction projects. This role involves gathering and analyzing data to estimate labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs. The primary objective is to track, bid, and secure profitable projects while maintaining a strong success rate on awarded work.
Key Responsibilities:
Identify and quantify cost components such as production time, labor, and materials.
Conduct site visits to collect data on materials, labor, and project-specific needs.
Review blueprints and technical documents to prepare accurate estimates.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, procurement teams, and subcontractors to develop cost-effective and constructible project plans.
Consult with internal stakeholders and industry experts to resolve estimating challenges.
Use estimating software tools including Microsoft Excel and Bluebeam.
Evaluate project cost-effectiveness and profitability.
Recommend strategies to improve cost efficiency and profitability.
Assist in the development of client bids and project proposals.
Contribute to project planning and ensure adherence to contractual obligations.
Prepare detailed takeoffs and assist with securing competitive subcontractor bids.
Compare budgets against actual project performance and recommend corrective actions.
Support contract management through scope writing and change order evaluations.
Assist in estimating and negotiating project change orders.
Ensure timely submission of all required documentation in line with company procedures.
Required Experience & Education:
Prior experience in the utility or construction sectors strongly preferred.
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management, plus a minimum of 5 years of experience in medium/high voltage substation and transmission construction; equivalent education and experience will be considered.
Proficient in reading and analyzing electrical construction drawings and specifications.
In-depth understanding of industry practices, procedures, and market dynamics.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent critical thinking and organizational abilities.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently.
Preferred Skills:
Hands-on experience in medium and high voltage electrical construction.
Experience estimating EPC (Engineer, Procure, Construct) projects.
Familiarity with estimating civil and electrical substation work, and transmission/distribution line construction.
