Position: Sheet Metal Mechanic

Position Overview: As a member of our sheet metal field crew, you will join a team of skilled tradespeople who take pride in their work. You will put your own skills and knowledge to the test to ensure that the quality production and installation of our finished product is second to none. To be a good fit for this role, you MUST not be afraid of heights, you MUST have a positive work ethic, and you MUST have previous work experience installing commercial duct systems.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Set and operate fabricating machines to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal, shaping metalPerform inspections of all fabricated pieces to ensure parts meet engineered drawing specificationsUtilize calipers, heights gages, and other measuring equipment as needed to meet drawing specificationsOperate hand tools such as drill presses, grinders, orbital sanders, etc.Interpret blueprints and drawings; follow technical guidesTroubleshoot installation issues of fabricated duct systemsEnsure equipment is maintained and serviceableFollow all company and job site safety protocolsOther duties as assigned by managementSkills & Requirements:
High school diploma or GEDREQUIRED 2+years of structural assembly experience sheet metal assembly fabricationAbility to work from heights for prolonged periods of timeAbility to walk stairs/climb ladders for prolonged periods of timeAble to read and interpret blueprintsAble to perform basic math functions and use math formulas by solving dimensional problemsMust be capable of performing tasks that frequently require lifting, reaching, bending, walking, pulling, sitting, standing, crouching, stooping, and kneeling for prolonged periods of timeAble to lift at least 50 lbs.Skills at using hand tools for riveting and drillingA high degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independentlyRequires the ability to use a phone and tablet to input data, such as timecard information, emails, etc.Bilingual (Spanish) a plus for this roleJob Location: 218 East Lathrop Avenue, Savannah, GA 31415

Duties & Responsibilities:
Operate ironworker power shears, grinders, metal forming equipment, and a variety of other welding equipment and hand tools
Analyze plans, drawings, work samples, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of welding assignments
Follow welding procedure specifications when welding and efficiently produce quality welds
Perform or assist with fitup and preparation of welds and with post weld cleanup, inspection, and repair
Communicate regularly with the Field Foreman regarding issues and concerns on the job site
Comply with all HMT safety policies and programs
Review schematics to ensure you have the proper equipment and materials; recommend supplies and materials that need to be ordered
Set up your welding equipment on-site
Heat the metal using your torch and shape the material according to the design
Join the metal piece to the rest of the construction
Follow all safety protocols and clean up your workspace upon completion
Must wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steeltoe shoes, ear and eye protection)
Must maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
Perform daily housekeeping in the shop
Perform other duties as assigned by management
Skills & Requirements:
Applicants must be able to pass 2, 3, 4G plate tests
Must have a working knowledge of welding techniques (Electric Arc, MIG, and TIG), tools, and equipment
Must have basic fabrication and layout skills
Must have basic math competence
Must be able to operate and read a tape measure
Ability to read and write in English required
Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
A high school diploma or GED certificate
An AWS certificate (preferred)
8+ years welding and fabricating experience a MUST
Blueprint reading skills
Requires the ability to use a phone and tablet to input data, such a timecards
Bilingual (Spanish) a plus for this role

Salary:Starting at $25/hour, but TBD based on work experience & skill levels
