Exterior Trim, Siding & Historic Window Restoration Carpenter
Position Summary
Cozy Development is seeking an experienced Finish Carpenter specializing in exterior trim, siding, historic window restoration, and architectural millwork for high-end historic homes throughout Charleston, South Carolina.
This position is designed for a craftsman—not a production carpenter. The ideal candidate takes pride in precision, understands historic construction methods, and consistently delivers work that meets the highest standards of craftsmanship. We are looking for individuals who value quality over speed, pay attention to details that others overlook, and have the skill to execute complex restoration work with minimal supervision.
Our projects include some of Charleston's most significant historic properties, requiring a deep respect for preservation, architectural integrity, and exceptional finish quality.
Responsibilities
Restore, repair, fabricate, and install historic exterior trim, moldings, siding, and architectural woodwork.Restore and rebuild historic wood windows, sash systems, glazing components, and window surrounds.Install new and historic-style doors, windows, shutters, and exterior millwork.Perform precise finish carpentry on restoration and custom residential projects.Measure, cut, fabricate, and install materials with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.Read and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, restoration details, and project specifications.Repair wood rot, structural deterioration, and weather-damaged building components.Install weather barriers, flashing systems, sealants, and waterproofing assemblies.Assist with exterior restoration scopes including siding replacement, framing modifications, and custom carpentry solutions.Maintain organized, clean, and safe job sites.Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and fellow craftsmen to ensure quality standards are achieved.Qualifications
5+ years of finish carpentry or historic restoration experience preferred.Extensive knowledge of exterior trim installation, siding systems, and historic building restoration.Proven experience restoring or replicating historic windows, doors, and architectural details.Ability to install doors and windows to professional finish standards.Strong understanding of traditional woodworking techniques and modern construction practices.Ability to read plans, elevations, sections, and construction details.Skilled with hand tools, power tools, table saws, miter saws, routers, and finish carpentry equipment.Ability to identify and solve field conditions while maintaining design intent.Strong understanding of jobsite safety and quality control procedures.Ability to lift and carry construction materials and work on ladders and scaffolding.What We Value
