    Corewell Health Trenton Hospital seeks to recruit an experienced, highly motivated, collaborative, visionary general surgeon. Y ou will be an employed physician, with knowledgeable practice management professionals assisting in day-to-day operations and take advantage the resources and referral base of the larger Corewell Health system! Ideal candidates will also possess excellent interpersonal skills for program building, exceptional communication skills to help expand the referral base and strengthen community ties. There are 6 inpatient operating rooms, an inpatient cystoscopy suite, an inpatient endoscopy suite, a cath lab/IR suite with 2 bays, and 2 dedicated OB operating rooms. There is an attached outpatient surgery center with 4 operating rooms and 2 endoscopy suites. There are 2 DaVinci surgical robots, with one in the surgery center 2 days per week, there is an anesthesiologist and CRNA on site 24/7. There are over 35,000 emergency visits and over 10,000 admissions annually.

    Corewell Health Trenton Hospital is a 193-bed acute care teaching hospital that sponsors nine university-affiliated residency programs. The hospital opened its doors to Trenton and its surrounding communities in 1961. It became part of Beaumont Health in September 2014. In addition to providing comprehensive medical and surgical care for its patients, the hospital offers all private beds, a medical and surgical intensive care unit, obstetrical care and other specialty services to assist our community. The hospital is a level 2 trauma center, the surgeon on call does need to be able to respond within 15 minutes. This radius encompasses Brownstown, Woodhaven, Riverview, Wyandotte, Grosse Ile, Gibraltar, Flat Rock, and North Rockwood. For anyone living further away, there is a call room available. The hospital was ranked No. 10 in metro Detroit and No. 13 in Michigan by U.S. News and World Report in 2023-24. Beaumont, Trenton was recognized as "high performing" in the following procedures and conditions: Congestive Heart Failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Diabetes, Heart Attack, Kidney Failure, Knee Replacement, Pneumonia, Stroke. Additionally, the hospital earned the Governor's Award for Excellence for Improving Care in Hospital Surgical and Emergency Department Settings and for Inpatient Clinical Achievement.

    Trenton is a suburb of Detroit with a population of 18,420, located in Wayne County and is one of the best places to live in Michigan. Woodhaven-Brownstown, Trenton, Gibraltar and Grosse Ile all have highly rated school districts with excellent high school sports teams.     Position Overview

    The Physician Advisor serves at the intersection of clinical operations and utilization management. Physician Advisors are responsible for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of the health problems presented by the patients. This role partners with physicians, care management, and hospital leadership to ensure appropriate, efficient, and high-quality patient care across the continuum.

    Essential Functions

    Develop and cultivate positive and productive working relationships with other Corewell Health personnel, and promote a culture of safety, teamwork, compassion, collaboration, clarity, curiosity, and courage.

    Demonstrate a commitment to service and distinctive, personalized care with both internal customers (coworkers, fellow employees, hospital staff, etc.) and external customers (patients, family members, referring physicians/specialists, etc.), while striving to exceed customer expectations.

    Assist in meeting operational, financial, and patient satisfaction goals.

    Timely completion of all specific competencies and annual organizational mandatories.

    Assess and monitor the medical needs of patients.

    Provide quality medical services to patients in a cost effective, appropriate manner and ensure coverage of case load at all times.

    Communicate regularly with patients' families, referring physicians, specialists, nursing staff and other hospital departments regarding the plan of care and treatment of patients, including within 24 hours of admission, for any major change in a patient's condition, and within 24 hours prior to discharge.

    Document medical services in the patient's medical record in a manner consistent with hospital, payor, and regulatory standards.

    Participate in on-call and weekend coverage, as required by the Department.

    Participate in value-based reimbursement programs and quality initiatives, as required by the Department.

    Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) / Quality Assurance (QA) and peer review activities as requested.

    Assist, as requested, in the development of policies and procedures as they related to medical practice and quality patient care.

    Participate in ongoing process improvement activities through the development/application of clinical paths, process improvement and other related activities.

    Support patient participation in clinical trials and research projects, assess clinical safety and efficacy data, consistent with Research Institute policies.

    Provide oversight, teaching, and mentorship of fellows, residents, APPs (e.g., physician assistants and advance practice registered nurses), and students and others (as appropriate) providing services to patients, including meaningful participation with the affiliated medical schools as requested.
