Job Description:
The Trainmaster is responsible for assuring the safe and efficient movement of traffic in his/her assigned territory. This individual is responsible for taking a leadership role in communicating and managing safety and service programs and for supervising the placement, assignment and training of subordinates. This person also coordinates support functions with the Mechanical and Maintenance of Way Departments utilizing available resources to achieve seamless customer service and operations. The individual works with customers on a regular basis to improve service, address logistical needs, and resolve issues. This person also recommends and implements operational changes to improve the efficiency and productivity of the work force and responds to any unusual occurrence by following the established rules, procedures, and/or guidelines.

Resource Management/CoordinationCoordinating and scheduling employees, equipment, facilities, and materials in an efficient and effective manner to accomplish work.Train AssemblyClassifying cars and assembling outbound trainsTrain MovementSafely and efficiently moving trains within the assigned territory.Customer Account ManagementMonitoring customer accounts, resolving customer-related and foreign railroad problems, and maintaining communications with customers.Managing Unusual OccurrencesDetermining what actions to take and then acting to manage any unexpected and unusual events (e.g., derailments, incidents, etc.).Safety ManagementAdministering and/or promoting Conrail's safety program, and ensuring employees' compliance with Conrail safety and operating rules and FRA regulations.Supervision/Staff DevelopmentDirectly supervising, coaching, training, and delegating work activities to subordinates.Budgeting/Capital PlanningParticipating in the budgeting process, including developing budgets, securing capital equipment, and reviewing the status of the budget versus spending.AdministrationCompleting required administrative reports and documentation, maintaining files, conducting routine communications with others, and attending training courses.Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree is preferredAbility to interact with all levels of employees and work as part of a team.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Demonstrated problem solving skills and customer focus.Thorough knowledge of car classification, dispatching, yard operations, safety and operating rules, FRA regulations, and labor collective bargaining agreements.Familiarity with Engineering and Mechanical Department functions.Physical Requirements

- Perform construction or maintenance tasks associated with railroad tracks.
- Participate in group meetings including safety meetings, job briefings, etc.
- Operate hand-held powered equipment and manual tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- Outdoor work experience in weather conditions (e.g. rain, snow, heat)
- Experience operating earth moving equipment in a construction or farming environment
- Welding experience is a plus
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus
Working Conditions:
- Walks and stands for extended periods on areas with uneven footing and surface
- Stoops, bends, kneels, crouches, balances occasionally
- Work schedule may involve overtime including weekends and holidays
- Willingness to travel away from home during the work week
- Heavy physical labor which may require lifting in excess of 70 lbs.
- Works outside in all types of weather conditions

No experience necessary, but preference will be given to applicants currently holding a valid Conductor/Engineer Certification under CFR 240/242.
Candidate must reside within two (2) hours of the reporting location.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs duties associated with the movement of rail cars: operate track switches, couple and uncouple cars, works on freight trains in yard and local operations.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
- Work various shifts including weekends and holidays.
- Able to lift, push, pull, and carry objects of various weight.
- Able to walk, sit, stand, bend, stoop and climb.
- Distinguish colors and communicate using a radio.
- Speak, read and write English.
- Have a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
· Minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible leadership experience.
· Significant experience leading complex transportation, logistics, railroad, manufacturing, or infrastructure organizations.
· Demonstrated success managing large operating budgets and diverse workforces.
· Strong understanding of safety management systems and regulatory compliance.
· Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors.
