Category-defining tech. Career-defining work. The next era of software won't operate at human scale. Applications will create applications. Systems will coordinate with systems. Data and decisions will move faster than teams can react to them. The infrastructure powering that world cannot be fragile, reactive, or limited by the assumptions of the past. Cockroach Labs exists to build what comes next - before the world requires it. We created CockroachDB to survive failures, scale without compromise, and adapt to changing conditions automatically. Now we're helping define a future where complexity fades into the background and infrastructure simply works, no matter the scale. This is the kind of challenge that attracts people who want to shape industries, not just participate in them. The work is ambitious, the standards are high, and the impact is real. The Role We're hiring a Sr. Marketing Content Strategist to help evolve and scale our content strategy for an AI-first, answer-driven landscape. This role sits within the Corporate Marketing function and reports directly to the Head of Corporate Marketing. You'll play a foundational role in shaping how Cockroach Labs structures, governs, and operationalizes content across the organization. This is not primarily a writing role. It's about building the systems, governance, and cross-functional processes that ensure our content is structured, discoverable, reusable, and optimized for both humans and LLMs - sitting at the intersection of content strategy, SEO/AEO, marketing operations, product marketing, and analytics. Your work will ensure Cockroach Labs' content is built for AI visibility, search discoverability, and measurable business impact by default, not as an afterthought. You Will Build Scalable Content Systems * Design and implement content frameworks aligned to search engines, answer engines, and AI agents * Define structured content models including taxonomy, metadata, schema, and modular architecture * Partner with Web and Digital teams to ensure technical implementation supports discoverability and reuse * Establish governance standards that enable content reuse across channels, regions, and formats Lead Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) * Translate AI search and AEO trends into actionable content architecture * Develop guidelines for machine-readable, structured, and citation-friendly content * Optimize content for LLM retrieval, featured snippets, and zero-click experiences * Build feedback loops to measure and improve visibility across AI-driven surfaces Design Content Operations * Create scalable intake, production, and publishing workflows * Define RACI models across Product Marketing, Brand, Demand Gen, and Comms * Standardize briefs, templates, QA processes, and performance reporting * Evaluate and evolve the content tech stack (CMS, DAM, AI tools, SEO tools) Orchestrate Cross-Functional Alignment * Align stakeholders across Marketing, Product, and Sales around shared frameworks * Train internal teams on structured content best practices * Serve as the connective layer between strategy and execution Measure & Optimize * Define KPIs for discoverability, answer visibility, and content reuse efficiency * Build dashboards that connect content performance to pipeline and authority * Identify operational bottlenecks and continuously improve throughput and quality The Expectations In your first 30 days, you'll immerse yourself in our content ecosystem, meet key stakeholders across Marketing and Product, and audit our current content systems and workflows By 60 days, you'll define a scalable content architecture framework and begin piloting structured models with priority team. By 90 days, you'll implement governance standards, launch measurable AEO initiatives, and establish performance dashboards that tie content structure to business impact You Have * 6-8+ years of experience in content strategy, SEO, content operations, or marketing operations * Deep understanding of technical SEO, and evolving search behavior * Background in B2B or technical marketing * Experience designing scalable workflows across multi-team, fast-moving environments * A systems-thinking mindset - you see content as an asset, not an output * Proven ability to influence without authority and drive alignment across cross-functional teams * Comfort operating in environments where AI is reshaping discovery and engagement Nice to Have * Experience optimizing content for LLM retrieval or answer engines * Exposure to schema or structured content approaches, with curiosity to go deeper * Experience implementing or evolving CMS and marketing technology systems Cockroach Labs is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer building a diverse and inclusive workforce. Category-defining tech. Career-defining work. Lots of tech companies disrupt. But, many fail when they try to scale. We're different. CockroachDB makes it easier for companies to build and scale apps. This is how and why we're helping some of the most innovative companies on the planet. We tackle problems head-on and focus on solutions that create lasting impact. Because when our customers win, we all win. The Role At the heart of CockroachDB is our Production Orchestration team- the stewards of availability, reliability, and scalability across our cloud offerings and beyond. Built on a foundation of SRE principles and carrying forward years of operational practice, our core commitment is clear: ensuring our customers have a secure, reliable, and performant production service at scale. We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Production Orchestration team as part of a global Production Engineering organization. You'll drive foundational architectural changes to how we operate our fleet, champion AI-driven approaches to both development and operations, and foster a culture of operational excellence, ensuring CockroachDB meets and exceeds our SLAs while keeping pace with rapid growth. You'll report to Tom Schmidt, Director of Production Engineering, who has led this team for 4+ years and will continue to be deeply involved in its technical direction. You'll be responsible for the growth and development of the team's engineers, day-to-day execution, and operational health, while bringing your own leadership and ideas to the table. You Will * Lead the Production Orchestration team, focused on the reliability, availability, and scalability of CockroachDB in production. * Own operational excellence. Ensure the team is meeting or exceeding our SLAs, running effective incident response, and continuously improving our operational posture. Every incident is treated as a learning opportunity. * Partner across the global Production Engineering organization to align on shared goals, ensure smooth coordination across time zones, and drive cohesive execution. * Drive automation and tooling. Relentlessly reduce operational toil by building systems that improve observability and scale our fleet without scaling headcount linearly. * Leverage AI to improve how the team builds and operates. Help the team adopt AI-assisted development practices and identify applied AI opportunities to improve operational workflows, from alert triage to capacity planning to incident response. * Contribute to foundational architecture. The team is building a new architectural initiative that will reshape how we operate our fleet. You'll help lead execution on this work and ensure the team has the space and support to deliver. * Coach and develop your engineers. Provide direct, constructive feedback. Guide personal development and career growth beyond just technical skills. Managing performance and ensuring engineers are achieving their goals is essential to retaining a high-performing team. * Partner with engineering and product leadership to shape the roadmap for CockroachDB's operational capabilities and future products. * Collaborate across teams to build and establish the tools and processes that empower everyone to make our customers successful. The Expectations In your first 30 days, you will become an integrated member of our engineering team. You'll spend time learning about the Production Orchestration team's domain, processes, and people, as well as CockroachDB and CockroachDB Cloud. You'll shadow on-call rotations, review recent incidents, and begin to understand the operational landscape. We believe it's essential for you to take this first month to become familiar with our technology and our company. After 3 months, you will be fully integrated into the team and comfortable leading the Production Orchestration team's execution. You'll have built an understanding of our infrastructure, observability stack, and operational tooling. You'll understand the team's priorities and roadmap, have established working relationships with partner teams across Production Engineering, and be actively contributing to our incident response and operational review processes. After 6 months, you'll be confidently managing the team and driving their work forward. You'll be shaping how the team approaches its new architectural work, identifying opportunities to apply AI to operational challenges, and ensuring that each member of your team is working on projects that align with both our needs and their interests. You'll be a key voice in Production Engineering's strategic direction. You Have * A passion for building relationships and a deep sense of responsibility for the welfare of the engineering team you manage, including their professional development and growth. We're looking for managers that want to empower their team to achieve their professional and personal goals. * Experience leading global operations and/or incident management and response. * Experience working on complex technical products with exposure to distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, container orchestration, or large-scale fleet management. * A strong SRE or Production Engineering background. You understand the principles of reliability engineering, SLOs/SLAs, error budgets, and the engineering approach to operations. * Comfort with programming languages like Go and Python. We use Go, but if you don't know it, you'll learn while you're here. * Solid systems architecture knowledge and an understanding of how a variety of teams' interactions may impact operational reliability. * Experience with performance management, understanding the importance of building an effective team that can function independently while collaborating and supporting each other. * Partnered across departments, ensuring coordination with internal teams and external partner teams across time zones. Bonus (You Have) * Grown or managed teams that coordinate across multiple time zones. * Experience supporting workloads across multiple cloud providers (GCP, AWS, Azure). * Leveraged, or even better built, observability tooling for your team and the rest of your org. * Experience applying AI/ML to operational workflows (e.g., intelligent alerting, automated remediation, capacity forecasting). * Familiarity with CockroachDB or distributed SQL databases. The Team Tom Schmidt- Director, Production Engineering Tom leads Cockroach Labs' Production Engineering org, responsible for the operational reliability and scalability of CockroachDB. He joined Cockroach Labs in August 2022 as manager of Site Reliability Engineering and has since taken responsibility for the broader production engineering organization. Before CRL, Tom spent 15 years at IBM, initially in technical leadership roles spanning compiler development, test frameworks, and CI/CD, before dedicating the latter half of his career to championing SRE across the organization. An enthusiastic advocate of the discipline, Tom has presented at conferences, developed certification curriculum, secured multiple patents, and was recognized as one of IBM's first three SRE Thought Leaders. Outside of work, Tom is a proud father of a 5-year-old boy and enjoys hiking, camping, and gaming. This is the kind of challenge that attracts people who want to shape industries, not just participate in them. The work is ambitious, the standards are high, and the impact is real. The Role GTM Operations is a small, high-intensity team at the center of Cockroach Labs' revenue transformation. As a Strategy & Ops Manager on this team, you'll work at the intersection of data, AI, and GTM execution -- building the analytical frameworks, agentic workflows, and operational programs that reshape how we create pipeline, accelerate deals, forecast revenue, and expand customer relationships. This role requires real technical fluency. You'll query databases, build financial models, design AI-powered workflows, and measure their impact, all in service of transforming how our revenue organization operates. If you thrive in ambiguity, move faster than the organization expects, and believe the best strategy is one that actually gets deployed, this role was built for you. To be eligible for this role, you must be based in NYC and will be expected to go into our Chelsea office on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. What You'll Do AI Workflow Design and Execution: Design, deploy, and iterate on agentic workflows across the revenue org -- account prioritization agents, outreach personalization, pipeline intelligence, customer health scoring. Measure real performance outcomes and use that data to improve. GTM Analytics and Insights: Query databases, analyze go-to-market performance data, and surface insights that inform how leadership allocates resources, sets targets, and structures the revenue org. Translate complexity into clear, actionable recommendations. Financial Modeling and Business Cases: Build the financial models that translate AI initiatives and GTM programs into measurable revenue impact including pipeline coverage, conversion rates, rep productivity, deal velocity. Make the numbers tell the story. Territory and Capacity Planning: Own analyses that support territory design, capacity planning, and coverage model decisions using data-driven frameworks. Help ensure the sales org is structured to hit its targets. Cross-Functional Program Execution: Drive programs end-to-end by diagnosing operational bottlenecks, designing solutions, coordinating across stakeholders, and making sure adoption sticks. Strategic Partnership: Operate as a thought partner to senior leaders across Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success. Earn influence through analytical rigor, speed of execution, and a willingness to say what the data actually shows. What We're Looking For * 2-3 years of experience at a top-tier investment bank, management consulting firm, or high-growth technology company in a strategy, operations, or analytical role * Exceptional analytical and financial modeling skills -- you can build complex models, dissect data, and translate complexity into clear recommendations * Fluency with AI tools: you use LLMs daily as a thinking partner, have experimented with prompt engineering, and are genuinely excited to push the boundaries of what AI can do in a business context * Relentless bias toward action. You don't wait for perfect information; you synthesize what's available, make a call, and iterate * Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting findings and owning outcomes with senior stakeholders * High agency and ownership mentality. You treat every project as if the outcome depends on you, because on this team, it does * Bachelor's degree required; STEM or quantitative field preferred Bonus Points * Experience with SQL or other querying languages * Hands-on experience building or deploying AI workflows, agents, or automations in a business context * Familiarity with GTM tools like Salesforce, Gong, Outreach, or similar * Genuine intellectual curiosity about how AI is reshaping go-to-market strategy -- you follow this space and have opinions about it What to Expect The learning curve here is steep, the pace is real, and the impact is immediate. Here's what success looks like: In your first 90 days * Get deep on the business -- understand how Cockroach Labs goes to market, where the bottlenecks are, and what data exists to diagnose them * Ship your first analysis or workflow that influences a real decision * Build working relationships across Sales, Marketing, CS, and Data Engineering * Develop a point of view on the highest-leverage opportunities in the revenue org In your first year * Own multiple AI workflows or GTM programs end-to-end -- from design to deployment to measurable outcome * Contribute meaningfully to territory design, capacity planning, or forecasting model work * Become a trusted analytical resource to senior revenue leaders * Build a track record of shipping things that stick, not just recommending them Cockroach Labs is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer building a diverse and inclusive workforce. The Role The Director of Product Management at Cockroach Labs is a senior product leader who owns end-to-end user journeys across Cockroach Labs' Products. This is a player-coach role: hands-on enough to set the standard for great PM craft, and senior enough to build and develop a high-performing team of Product Managers. This leader brings deep customer obsession, strategic clarity, and a relentless drive to improve user outcomes at every stage of the developer lifecycle - from onboarding and activation through scale, observability, and governance. They operate with an AI-first mindset, using intelligence as a force multiplier for both the product they build and the craft of product management itself. We seek someone who leads with evidence, listens with empathy, and creates the kind of clarity that lets teams move fast with purpose. What You'll Own * Own the product strategy and portfolio of investments across your journeys, making explicit tradeoffs across user segments, product surfaces, and time horizons, while balancing investments across different deployment options. * The picture of success for your area: a North Star metric plus leading and lagging indicators that reflect real user progress, not feature output * A team of Product Managers (Staff PMs and/or Senior PMs) - their development, accountability, and craft * Deep customer and journey discovery: qualitative and quantitative, continuous and structured * Clear, concise Outcome Briefs (3 pages or less) anchored in WHAT, WHY, and WHO - not feature specs * A living (now/next/later) roadmap that reflects reality, tradeoffs, and strategic focus * The PM operating rhythm for your area: weekly triads, biweekly roadmap syncs, monthly insights reviews, and quarterly planning and reflection What You'll Do Strategy & Execution * Define a clear product vision for your journeys that connects user problems to business outcomes, and translate it into a 12-month strategy and 90-day outcome bets * Drive evidence-based prioritization using frameworks like RICE and customer signals - making tradeoffs explicit, not implicit * Balance short-term fixes with long-term bets, ensuring the team is always working on the highest-leverage problems * Partner with Engineering on feasibility and tradeoffs - owning the WHAT and WHY; Engineering owns the HOW Customer & Journey Obsession * Establish an ongoing rhythm of customer engagement: calls, support ticket review, field shadowing, and journey shadowing sessions * Define Jobs-To-Be-Done (JTBD) and user personas across your journeys - developers, DBAs, SREs, platform engineers, AI engineers * Use AI to synthesize qualitative feedback, support tickets, and telemetry at scale - surfacing patterns, not just data points * Maintain a product backlog grounded in validated, quantified pain points Team & Craft Development * Mentor and develop PM talent - elevating the consistency of craft, accountability, and outcomes across your team * Foster a culture of curiosity, continuous learning, and customer-first thinking * Set the bar for what great PM work looks like: Outcome Briefs that become models of clarity, roadmaps others want to follow, and insights that shape company decisions Cross-Functional Leadership * Drive alignment across Engineering, Design, Docs, Field, and GTM - building shared context, not just shared calendars * Partner with PMM and GTM to craft compelling launch narratives and post-launch success stories * Influence through data, clarity, and narrative - not title or escalation AI-First Product Development * Identify opportunities to embed AI across user journeys - from schema design to observability to operational intelligence * Define AI Evals and measurable AI metrics for every AI-powered feature from day one * Embed AI tools in your team's day-to-day workflows: discovery, spec writing, synthesis, and roadmap planning The Expectations First 30 Days * Deeply understand our user journeys, the Developer Lifecycle framework, and the product areas you'll own * Meet your direct reports, Engineering partners, and cross-functional stakeholders across Field, Support, Design, and GTM * Participate fully in the PM operating rhythm - triads, journey reviews, and prototype reviews * Get grounded in the current roadmap, active bets, and near-term priorities First 90 Days * Fully own your user journeys - running rituals, driving prioritization, and setting clear success criteria * Deliver your first Outcome Briefs, Journey Maps, and an updated now/next/later roadmap * Develop an informed hypothesis on the highest-impact investments for your area and socialize it with your manager and key partners * Identify and close gaps in customer discovery, telemetry visibility, or cross-functional alignment * Establish a clear development cadence with your team - 1:1s, growth conversations, and shared expectations You Have * 8-12+ years of experience in Product Management, with 3-5+ years in leadership roles managing PMs * Proven experience in database, infrastructure, developer tools, cloud infrastructure, or distributed systems products * A track record of elevating PM craft and team output - not just managing headcount * Deep fluency in user journey thinking - owning end-to-end experiences across multiple surfaces (UI, CLI/API, Docs) * Strong evidence-based decision-making: you use telemetry, NPS, RICE, and customer research - not instinct alone * Excellent written communication - our strategic product meetings rely on written docs, not slides * Demonstrated ability to drive cross-functional alignment through influence, data, and clarity * An AI-first mindset: in how you think about product experiences and how you operate day-to-day * Experience working in a SaaS, enterprise software, or open-core business model preferred The Team * Reporting to Igor Stanko, VP of Product, you will lead the Product Management team and serve as a key member of the R&D leadership group.
