    Position Summary:

    The Recreation Specialist is responsible for assisting and implementing recreational activities and providing supervision for participants within the guidelines of DPRD. The Recreation Specialist is an integral team member overseeing recreation programming tasks and programs and assisting other Parks and Recreation staff. Work involves extensive public contact and working knowledge of department procedures and overall City Operations.

    The list of duties, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. The omission of a function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed herein if such functions are a logical assignment to the position.

    Develops, promotes, and organizes programming for all ages.Recruits community members to participate in new and ongoing programs, including exercise classes, educational classes, adults and seniors, youth and teens, and special events.Responds to all inquiries and complaints or refers to the appropriate person.Effectively manages self through the independent initiation and accomplishment of tasks.Assists customers by answering questions, providing support, and assisting as necessary (in-person, on the phone, and via email).This position is a liaison to instructors, participants, and rentals for center programs and activities.Provides supervision for facility and appearance, including light janitorial duties such as sweeping and cleaning restrooms and other areas. Enforces program rules and supervises program areas. Responsible for preparation of programs and activities, setting up the facility for programs, and staffing special events. .Performs administrative task, including greeting patrons, registering participants via CommunityPass, accepts fees, providing receipts, posts registration and paying fees; provides instructors or leaders with rosters. Supervises customer sign-ins and answers telephone calls and emails.Responds to requested information by providing knowledge of the division’s services, operations, and activities.Forwards calls to appropriate staff members and takes messages when needed. Maintains electronic and paper records and ensures accuracy of recorded data by verifying information from CommunityPass.Enters and retrieves patron information from a computer database to update records and processes transactions.

    Education and Experience:

    This position supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of public works projects related to transportation, stormwater, and other city infrastructure.     MAJOR DUTIES

    •The work consists of varied engineering and project management duties. The variety of department projects contributes to the complexity of the position.

Success in this position helps to ensure that all new development is built in accordance with codes and standards, that all city-maintained infrastructure is installed properly, and that city capital projects are completed in accordance with accepted guidelines and standards.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    •Baccalaureate degree in Planning, Civil Engineering, Public Administration, or a related field.

    •Internship, co-op, graduate assistantship, or project-based experience may be substituted for professional experience.

    •Engineer-in-Training (EIT), AICP Candidate, or similar professional certification is desirable but not required.

    •Reviews site plans and construction plans and meets with developers, architects, and engineers to resolve problems concerning compliance with environmental ordinances, assesses the need for soil erosion permits, storm water detention/water quality and general construction issues. Submits plans for review by State and Federal agencies for stream buffer encroachments, soil erosion and sedimentation control permits and other permits to be approved by the state and federal authorities.

    •Processes Rights-of-Way construction permit applications submitted by property owners, developers, contractors, utility companies and DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management, including provisions for work zone safety, and monitors construction work.

    •Assists in the administration of city ordinances relating to post-development storm water management, soil erosion and sedimentation control and floodplain management/flood damage prevention.

    Purpose of Work:

    This position is responsible for protecting life, property, and the environment by responding to fires, medical emergencies, and other emergency situations within the City of Decatur. The role includes fire suppression, rescue and EMS support, fire prevention, and maintaining readiness of equipment and facilities while serving the community with professionalism and teamwork.


    Major Responsibilities:

    Prevents, mitigates, combats, suppresses and extinguishes firesProvides basic emergency care to sick or otherwise injuredPerforms salvage overhaul after fire is suppressed. Inspects fire department equipment during tour of duty to ensure preparedness and efficient response to emergency and non-emergency incidents.     Summary:

    The City of Decatur Police Department provides police protection through proactive patrolling, crime prevention, and investigation programs.     NATURE OF WORK

    This is telecommunications work in monitoring City service radios, answering incoming telephone calls and dispatching emergency services, personnel, and equipment. Work involves the operation of radios, telephones, alarm board, computer terminals and printers and recording equipment. Police, fire, emergency service and animal control calls are received 24 hours every day from the public. The position dispatches personnel, vehicles and equipment to the scene of an emergency based upon the location and nature of the emergency. The position also monitors radios for status of City employees and calls. State and national crime information networks are maintained and records for all calls are established. Work is reviewed while in progress and through evaluation of records and reports.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
