CIG Energy is seeking a Director, Interconnection Services to lead transmission and interconnection efforts for utility-scale generation and large load projects throughout the ERCOT market. This leadership role is responsible for guiding projects through every phase of the interconnection process—from initial transmission assessments and site selection through engineering studies, construction support, commissioning, and commercial operation.
The successful candidate will serve as the company's subject matter expert for ERCOT interconnection strategy while working closely with development, engineering, finance, commercial, and executive leadership. This individual will also provide technical guidance for acquisitions, project due diligence, and transmission planning initiatives.
Primary ResponsibilitiesInterconnection Strategy & ExecutionLead generator and large-load interconnection activities within ERCOT, ensuring projects remain on schedule and in compliance with applicable market rules and protocols.Manage projects throughout the ERCOT interconnection lifecycle, including screening studies, Full Interconnection Studies (FIS), facilities studies, construction coordination, and grid synchronization.Coordinate directly with ERCOT, Transmission Service Providers (TSPs), utilities, and engineering consultants to advance projects through the interconnection queue.Review study assumptions, network upgrade requirements, and technical deliverables to ensure accurate project evaluation.Transmission Planning & Technical AnalysisEvaluate transmission system capabilities through injection analyses and feasibility assessments.Perform or oversee power system studies, including:Steady-state analysisShort-circuit studiesDynamic and transient stability analysisTransmission impact assessmentsAnalyze congestion risks, curtailment exposure, and transmission limitations to support project development decisions.Recommend optimal points of interconnection and transmission solutions that improve project economics.Project Development SupportProvide technical leadership during site selection and early-stage project development.Support acquisition and investment evaluations by assessing interconnection risks, transmission upgrade costs, and overall project viability.Develop transmission and interconnection strategies that maximize portfolio value.Monitor ERCOT planning activities, market changes, regulatory developments, and transmission expansion initiatives.Cross-Functional LeadershipPartner with Development, Engineering, Commercial, Finance, and Executive Leadership to support project advancement and investment decisions.Present technical analyses and recommendations to internal leadership, investors, and external stakeholders.Cultivate productive relationships with ERCOT, utilities, consultants, and industry partners.Identify opportunities to streamline interconnection processes, reduce project risk, and improve development timelines.QualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting generator or large-load interconnection projects within ERCOT.Demonstrated experience managing ERCOT interconnection applications and study processes.Strong understanding of:ERCOT ProtocolsTransmission planningNERC reliability standardsGenerator interconnection requirementsExperience collaborating with ERCOT, Transmission Service Providers, utilities, and engineering consultants.Proven ability to review and interpret Full Interconnection Studies and transmission upgrade requirements.Technical Skills
