    Position Summary

    Our Material Handlers are responsible for assisting customers in loading their materials, maintaining yard organization, handling materials safely, and supporting daily operations. This role involves both physical labor and customer service, ensuring that materials are accurately pulled, loaded, and inventoried while keeping the yard clean and efficient. As a Material Handler, you will be responsible for ensuring that our customers receive a positive experience by properly loading their orders and staging and transporting materials for deliveries.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Material Handler / Yard Clerk

    The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

    Load materials into customers' vehicles or onto company delivery vehiclesAccurately build loads and prepare materials for deliveries in a timely mannerCarefully unload incoming freightSafely operate forklift in accordance with OSHA and KBC standardsWork with team to schedule deliveries of materials to customersMaintain clean and organized environment in lumberyard and storage buildingsProvide exceptional customer service, addressing any concerns or issues that may ariseBuild relationships with customers, vendors and team membersCollaborate with other departments to ensure that all operations are running smoothlyPerform other assigned tasks as requested by leadership team when needed

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

    High school diploma or equivalentMinimum of 1 year of experience in related fieldKnowledge of building materials, applications, related equipment, and construction industry is preferred, but not requiredValid driver's license required (Class C license preferred, but not required)Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with customers, vendors and team membersStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to manage inventory and maintain accurate recordsKnowledge of safety regulations and proceduresAbility to safely operate forklifts and other yard equipmentAbility to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously Requirements: Provide exceptional customer service to all customers.Willingness to learn and develop product knowledge.Proficient with handling cash transactions.Accurately answering customer questions.Order product for customers if needed, and complete special-order paperwork for product.Order/purchase stock items or special-order material.Maintain the proper amount of inventory (if responsible for ordering stock product).Maintain a competitive price level for ordering responsibilities.Occasionally walk the storeroom to help customers, clean, stock shelves, etc.Must be able to figure material list and pricing on estimates per customer's request.Maintaining cleanliness of work area.Perform store maintenance and cleaning. (Sweep, dust, mop, take out trash, etc.)Professionally handle complaints from customers, escalate when needed.Efficiently and professionally process computer sales and charges.Assisting customers who require materials from the yard, when called upon.Be familiar with the location of store and yard inventory.Lifting limitations: Minimum 100 Lbs.Must be able to stoop and bend knees and arms without difficulty.Adhere to all safety and health standards as established by OSHA and Kirchner Building Centers.Other duties as assigned by Department Head, Manager, and/or Ownership.

Our Charleston location is seeking a reliable and experienced Delivery Driver - Building Materials / Lumberyard with a Class B CDL or above license to join our team.

    Requirements:

    Experience and License Requirements of the Delivery Driver:

    Clean driving record

    Class B CDL (or above) license required

    Ability to obtain forklift certification within 30 days of hire (training/testing provided by Kirchner Building Centers)

    Able to travel to and from work in Charleston, IL daily

    Must have knowledge of load capacity, safety guidelines and general maintenance of trucks

    Must be able to complete pre-employment screenings


    Physical Requirements of the Delivery Driver:

    May need to lift, push, or move products weighing an average of 100 pounds

    Ability to read, write and communicate in English


    Responsibility & Duties of the Delivery Driver:

    Trucks and forklift must be kept clean and in working condition.

    Perform pre-trip inspection of truck and do routine maintenance.

    Inform manager/supervisor of all necessary truck repairs and maintenance so it can be scheduled in a timely manner.

    Check delivery product for accuracy and make sure the load is secured properly.

    Communicate with customers about their delivery and get proper signature on delivery paperwork.

    Unload material by hand or operate a Boom Truck or Moffett Forklift to unload material.

    Assist customers who require material from the yard in a professional manner.

    Must maintain and adhere to all safety and health standards as established by OSHA and Kirchner Building Centers while driving, unloading, or working around the yard.

    Must be able to responsibly operate a yard forklift.

    Abide by traffic laws posted in the area.

    Trucks and forklift must be kept clean and in working condition.

    Will be responsible for proper paperwork for deliveries, incoming inventory, and inner-yard.

    Responsible for unloading product from vendors, inner-yard and delivery trucks and putting the material away.

    Maintain good communication with other co-workers.

    Other duties assigned by store manager or ownership.


    Schedule:

    Working Hours: 7:00am - 5:00pm (hours may vary by location/season; Saturday hours differ; Closed Sunday)

    Some Saturday mornings may be required, based on business needs

    Limited overtime available
