    Job Summary

    Card-Monroe Automation is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer III to join our Greenville, SC team. This role is ideal for a strong controls engineer who enjoys custom automation, complex problem-solving, and non-repetitive project work.

    The Controls Engineer III will design, program, implement, test, and support control system solutions for automated equipment. This position works closely with engineering, assembly, project management, and customers to deliver high-quality automation systems from concept through installation, commissioning, and customer acceptance.

    Key Responsibilities

    Design and implement control system solutions for custom automated equipment.

    Develop software code for programmable controllers, robotics, motion control, vision systems, SCADA applications, and high-level languages.

    Create accurate project documentation including control narratives, I/O lists, flowcharts, device lists, and related project documentation.

    Support equipment testing, dry-cycle, runoff, FAT, startup, commissioning, and customer site acceptance.

    Coordinate with assembly and project teams to resolve build, startup, and installation issues.

    Interact with customers from a technical standpoint regarding solutions, issues, project progress, and system acceptance.

    Review budgets and schedules and work with Project Managers on forecasting and release dates.

    Determine and select appropriate hardware and devices for automated systems.

    Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, team members, and project stakeholders.

    Troubleshoot equipment during installation, startup, and commissioning.

    Contribute to software libraries, programming standards, and process improvements.

    Participate in safety risk assessments and assist with specifying safety components.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Four-year engineering degree, or two-year associate degree with 6+ years of experience in controls hardware/software design for industrial manufacturing equipment, machines, robot cells, or related automation.

    6-8+ years of experience in machine building, system integration, or industrial automation.

    Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks Electrical.

    PLC programming experience, including Allen-Bradley RSLogix 5/500, Studio 5000, Siemens Step 7, and/or TIA Portal.

    HMI programming experience, including FactoryTalk View ME/SE, RSView, PanelBuilder, Siemens WinCC Flex, and/or TIA Portal.

    SCADA programming experience such as FactoryTalk, Ignition, Wonderware, or GE Proficy.

    Industrial networking experience including Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, TCP/IP, Modbus, DH+, RIO, EtherCAT, or similar.

    Experience with vision systems such as Keyence, Cognex, or Balluff.

    Servo experience such as Allen-Bradley Kinetix or Siemens SIMOTION.

    Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.

    Preferred Skills

    Hands-on experience in automotive, food/beverage, chemical, consumer products, or other manufacturing environments.

    Experience designing and integrating robot cells, OEM machines, process systems, or similar automation equipment.

    Working knowledge of process control strategies such as PID loops.

    Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.

    Experience troubleshooting discrete and analog circuits.

    ISA88 Batch Programming experience.

    PlantPAX experience.

    Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
