    CapSpecialty is seeking college graduates for a year-long Underwriting Trainee position on our Environmental Underwriting team. Candidates who successfully complete the program will become Underwriters. As an Underwriting Trainee, the individual will get hands on training within the Environmental Underwriting Unit, in addition to time spent with various department heads and leaders across the company to learn more about insurance operations, the history of CapSpecialty, how insurance companies generate profits and the role of reinsurance. Trainees will learn the basics of how to underwrite specialty lines insurance, analyze financial statements, interpret a policy form and interact with CapSpecialty’s wholesale broker partners. Trainees will participate in department meetings, roundtables, monthly business reviews (MBRs), Joint Accountability Groups (JAGs) and large claim meetings as appropriate. Trainees will spend time with Actuarial, Marketing & Engagement, Claims and Portfolio Management, in addition to accompanying members of the underwriting team on marketing visits. Formal performance evaluations will occur at three, six, nine and 12 months. The Underwriting Training program is designed to provide candidates with the knowledge and skills required to begin a successful underwriting career.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Candidates will become immersed in the insurance principles they learn so that they have a basic understanding of how to evaluate a risk and can move into a production role upon completion of the Underwriting Training program.Candidates will apply underwriting analysis on actual accounts to support production underwriters.Candidates will begin to develop relationships with their assigned brokers.Candidates will perform other duties as needed.

    CapSpecialty is seeking an Underwriter for our Environmental Team who will select profitable risks and manage book of business by underwriting new business opportunities or assigned renewals. Build solid relationships with brokers and co-workers by providing a high level of customer service and accountability. Review submissions post triage and clearance, review underwriting information and determine if the account fits with our appetite. Prepare and issue quotes, binders, and perform mid-term servicing as required.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Process new business opportunities and triage submission data to determine if the opportunity is a fit to our appetite and if the target pricing is aligned with our profitability needs. And/or process assigned renewals by reviewing current policy status and conditions, pricing, getting updated information, taking appropriate action and suspense for future actions.Ensure smooth workflow and excellent customer service to agents by prioritizing multiple tasks, responding to inquiries, preparing pricing using the rating model, issuing detailed quotes, assisting with technical issues, utilizing effective problem solving, and by being available to deliver exceptional service.Assist agents by responding to inquiries and assisting in coverage selection.Review endorsements by evaluating impact of change, current policy status and conditions.Ensure communication by working with other departments to explain, evaluate and resolve problems or issues of common concern.Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

    CapSpecialty is seeking a Construction Underwriter who is responsible for underwriting, building, and nurturing a book of casualty brokerage business through a dedicated wholesale distribution force, while also delivering strong underwriting analysis and superior customer service to the Specialty Casualty brokerage team.     Independently produce more complex accounts/programs from startups to Fortune 500 account types.
