ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Outside Mechanic is responsible for engine maintenance on all floating equipment. They are responsible for daily checks on all equipment and their mechanical parameters and the recording of all information. The Outside Mechanic assists the Chief Engineer and completes any duties requested that help to prevent engine or mechanical failures.
This position will be under the direct supervision of the Chief Engineer.
• Daily maintenance and inspections on all equipment
• Respond to downed equipment, assess situations and repairs that are needed
• Follow and execute preventative maintenance schedule
• Lead and train engineering crew on proper operations of equipment
• Report to Chief and Captain of any and all repairs needed to properly schedule down time
• Maintain daily logs of equipment checks and maintenance records.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
The employee must have:
• Mechanical background is a must
• Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment and respond quickly when needed
• Ability to troubleshoot and make repairs as needed
• Experience operating, maintaining, and trouble-shooting the following list of equipment:
diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air compressors, centrifuge pumps, gear pumps, positive displacement pumps, lube oil/fuel separators, anchor winches – electrical/hydraulic.
• Ability to comply with safety rules and regulations.
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work as directed and get your work done timely and correctly.
• Ability to work away from home at remote project locations for extended durations.
• Must be reliable and motivated.
• Ability to obtain TWIC.
• Knowledge of operation of various types of marine equipment, tools, and devices.
• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
In addition, a Mechanic must also be capable of:
• Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
• Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time.
• Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
• Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting means.
• Must be able to push and pull at peak force of 150lbs.
• Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater.
• Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.
• Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.

Performs routine inspections to identify potential issues with cranes’ mechanical and hydraulic systems. Performs safety checks and ensures that cranes comply with safety regulations. Uses computerized or electronic testing equipment to ensure the proper functioning of electronic and control systems. Maintains accurate records of service and repairs. Communicates effectively with crane operators and other team members. Orders and replaces parts as needed. Dismantles, adjusts, repairs, or replaces faulty components and then reassembles the equipment. Works closely with Crane Operators to understand any technical issues and provide solutions. Ensure that the machinery is correctly calibrated, reducing the risk of accidents. Understands and follows alignment procedures for aligning shafts, couplings, or other comparable items. Troubleshoots hydraulic system on mobile cranes. Test operate cranes to verify proper operations. Repairs electro-mechanical equipment if needed. Perform inspection on crane boom chord, lattice, and structure according to AWS D1.1 Remove, disassemble, rebuild, and reinstall systems such as booms, hoists, outrigger beams. Excellent problem-solving abilities to promptly identify and resolve mechanical issues that might affect the operation of the crane. Removes, installs, and rebuilds, hydraulic cylinders, pumps, swivels, valves, and control systems. Adhere to safety and compliance regulations.QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
The employee must have:
A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Crane Mechanic/Technician. An exceptional knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and electrical systems is also vital for this role.Must have knowledge and ability to properly adjust and repair crane brake systems.Must be proficient in reading and understanding technical blueprints and manuals, and able to use computerized diagnostic tools and equipment. Experience with diagnostic software and equipment Understanding of safety and compliance regulations Excellent problem-solving abilities to promptly identify and resolve mechanical issues that might affect the operation of the crane. Strong attention to detail to ensure that all parts of the crane are in good working condition and that any defective parts are promptly replaced.Ability to read, comprehend and work from technical manuals, blueprints, and schematic diagrams to understand the construction and operation of cranes.Physical endurance and strength to manage heavy parts and work in physically demanding conditions. Effective communication skills to interact with crane operators, team members, and supervisors, and to explain technical issues in a comprehensible manner. Time management skills to perform repairs and maintenance tasks within the given timeframe.Experience with welding tools and equipment for repair and fabrication tasks.They are dependable, able to work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines. Willingness to travel to various job sites throughout the Gulf Coast region.Able to work onshore or offshore as needed.
