What You'll Do
Hire, train, mentor, and manage one or more Software Engineering teams (5-15 engineers), including onshore and offshore resources
Establish and enforce best practices across the full software development lifecycle - architecture, build, test, deploy, and maintain
Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and drive engineering standards across the team
Own team composition, capacity planning, and resource allocation across engineering workstreams
Manage performance, provide regular feedback, and cultivate a high-performing engineering culture
Coordinate onshore and offshore resources to maximize delivery velocity and qualit
Partner with delivery and product leadership to align engineering capacity with business demand and pipeline of work.
Define and drive the long-term technical vision and roadmap for the product area's backend and integration architecture
Identify opportunities for platform improvements, technical debt reduction, and scalability investments
Evaluate and recommend new technologies, patterns, and practices that advance the engineering organization
Participate actively in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retrospectives, backlog refinement) to ensure overall engineering progress aligns with roadmaps and timelines
Act as the engineering point of accountability for a product area, with visibility across all technology layers - even those outside direct expertise
Identify risks, dependencies, and blockers across services, web, mobile, and content engineering; escalate proactively
Act as the technical liaison between engineering teams and business/functional stakeholders
Present technical concepts, status updates, project plans, and escalations to senior leadership with clarity and confidence
Collaborate with Scrum and Release Managers to ensure on-time, on-schedule delivery
Ensure appropriate quality processes are in place to deliver high-quality applications in compliance with all regulatory requirements
What You'll Need
Required:
7+ years of software development/engineering experience
3+ years of experience leading engineers and managing engineering teams
Strong hands-on backend engineering background (Java, Spring Boot, microservices)
Solid understanding of Docker/containers and Kubernetes + Kustomize
Proficiency with GitOps workflows and Argo CD
Experience with Kafka and event-driven architecture
Experience with Couchbase or other NoSQL databases
Proven experience integrating backend services into front-end client applications (web and/or mobile)
Strong preference for candidates with backend/middleware/API development background who understand how to build scalable services that power guest-facing front-end experiences
Proven ability to manage teams, plan resources, and drive long-term technical strategy
Strong verbal and written communication skills
High sense of urgency, ownership, and accountability
Solid experience working with offshore teams and driving work through closure across distributed teams
Preferred:
Experience developing both web and mobile solutions
Experience with GraphQL and API gateway architecture (Apigee or equivalent)
Experience with reactive programming (WebFlux, Project Reactor) and non-blocking I/O
