    Job Summary

    The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing all phases of heavy highway and civil construction projects, ensuring their successful completion on time, within budget, and according to specifications. This role involves leading project planning, coordination, scheduling, cost control, safety, quality assurance, and communication with internal teams and external stakeholders including INDOT, municipalities, clients, vendors, and subcontractors. The Project Manager serves as the key point of contact between the office and the field, ensuring operational efficiency and financial performance.

    Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

    • Analyze project plans, specifications, and contract documents to develop scopes of work
    • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and resource plans from kickoff to closeout
    • Helps coordinate project teams, including field superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and vendors
    • Manage contracts, permits, submittals, purchase orders, and change orders
    • Schedules needed labor, equipment, and materials usage to maximize efficiency and profitability
    • Prepare and maintain detailed construction records and documentation, including INDOT-required reports
    • Lead project meetings and maintain regular communication with clients, inspectors, and engineers
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality assurance procedures
    • Track job costs and oversee timely billing and cost reporting, including progress payments and retainage releases
    • Troubleshoot and resolve project issues while managing risk and escalating concerns as needed
    • Support pre-bid efforts including quantity takeoffs and gathering subcontractor and vendor quotes
    • Promote company values, policies, and initiatives related to safety, ethics, and continuous improvement

    • Assist others in department as needed
    • Perform other related duties as assigned

    Required Skills and Abilities

    • Strong leadership and team coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Deep understanding of heavy highway, road, and civil construction practices and INDOT specifications
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and construction documents
    • Ability to analyze budgets, schedules, and project performance data
    • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and stakeholder relationship management
    • High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and decision-making skills
    • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various job sites

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or related field preferred; or eight (8) years equivalent experience in heavy highway construction
    • A minimum of five (5) years of experience managing INDOT heavy highway or civil infrastructure projects is required
    • Equivalent combinations of education and work experience will be considered
    • Experience with estimating, scheduling, and project financials is highly valued
    • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project), with familiarity in Bluebeam, OnStation, ITAP, or other project management software/applications preferred
    • Hands-on field construction experience is a plus

    Physical Requirements

    • Lifting/Carrying: Up to 50 lbs frequently
    • Pushing/Pulling: Up to 50 lbs frequently
    • Driving: Regular driving of automatic and possibly standard transmission vehicles
    • Movement Requirements: Frequent standing, walking, and keyboarding; occasional sitting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, climbing, crawling, and reaching above shoulder level
    • Use of Hands: Frequent use of hands for keyboarding and handling materials
    • Environmental Exposure: Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat and cold, dust, wet surfaces, uneven terrain, and standing on concrete; frequent travel; frequent work in both indoor and outdoor environments

    Working Environment

    • Time split between office and field environments (approximately 50/50)
    • Work long hours and potentially 6 days a week, with the understanding nights could be needed
    • Travels up to 125-mile radius from the main office
    • Interaction with internal departments (e.g., Safety, Accounting, Field Operations) and external partners (e.g., clients, municipalities, subcontractors)
    • Must be comfortable working in high-pressure, deadline-driven settings

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • Monitors and coordinates multiple crews, subcontractors, and project team members
    • Provides leadership, performance feedback, and direction to ensure successful project outcomes

    We are looking for an additional Survey Crew Chief to add to our growing Survey / Engineering Department. A good candidate will be a motivated and hardworking individual who is looking for experience on a variety of projects and wants to find a place to develop a career. This person will be flexible and able to work in a fast paced environment. This position offers the opportunity to work on multiple projects in the private, commercial and public markets. Relocation expense reimbursement packages are available for this position.

    Job Summary:

    This Survey Crew Chief will be expected to work with our survey, engineering and operations departments, to perform surveying tasks in the field. In this position you will need to be able to think quickly and be able transition from one project to the next without hesitation. Projects include: boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, elevation certificates, and recorded document research. Experience in field collection of topographic survey data, property boundary survey data, construction staking and calculations, is required. Experience with recorded document research is a plus.

    Essential Job Functions (*=Non-essential tasks):

    • Perform field collection of boundary survey data under the supervision of a Professional Surveyor.
    • Perform field collection of topographic survey data.
    • Perform construction staking and calculations (layout of private, commercial and governmental projects)
    • Use of AutoCAD software and Trimble Business Center
    • Data collection and downloading of data
    • Work with project superintendents and foremen to identify and resolve problems or discrepancies with drawings, sites, staking, etc.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of surveying technology and practices

    * Assist others in department as needed

    * Other duties as assigned

    Requirements:

    Experience:

    • 3+ years experience in construction industry with some Heavy Highway knowledge is preferred
    • Current knowledge of present day surveying technology (GPS, Robotic Total Station, Data Collector)

    Education:

    • Associate's or Technical degree in Surveying, CAD, Construction, Engineering or related degree

    Preferred

    • Survey Technician Certification or willingness to quickly acquire certification
    • Professional Surveyor licensure (or eligibility) is a plus

    Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job may be considered.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Proven use of GPS and/or "Total Station" surveying instruments
    • Proven use of various surveying software programs
    • Ability to work well under pressure both independently or on a team
    • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization
    • Develop and maintain peer and customer partnerships
    • Use appropriate discretion regarding project confidentiality
    • Ability to read construction plan documents and identify discrepancies
    • Ability to gather and analyze data and prepare clear and concise field notes
    • Strong math skills, including principles of algebra, geometry and trigonometry
    • Demonstrate high ethical standards.
    • Proven dependability, organization and adaptability skills
    • Ability to work for long periods at an energetic pace with frequent interruptions

    Working Environment:

    • Individual will be working in a field and office environment (85/15), with a primary emphasis on survey related field work.
    • Ability to work in adverse conditions, including rain, snow, extreme heat or cold, water, mud, dust, etc. As well as the ability to carry up to 40 pounds of equipment over rough terrain

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Indirect: Where applicable, directs and oversees staff members regarding construction, operations, and/or tasks and assignments at a project site.
