Job Summary The Body Fabrication Finishing Technician is responsible for fabricating, assembling, finishing, and painting structural and aesthetic components used in advanced mechanical and industrial equipment. This role combines expertise in metal fabrication, bodywork, precision assembly, and automotive-grade finishing to ensure products meet the highest standards of structural integrity, durability, functionality, and appearance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technician with experience in industrial fabrication, automotive bodywork, custom manufacturing, and high-quality paint application. Success in this role requires the ability to work from engineering drawings, support prototype development, collaborate with engineering teams, and consistently deliver exceptional craftsmanship. Key Responsibilitie sFabrication Assembl yFabricate and assemble metal bodies, housings, frames, enclosures, and custom components for industrial and mechanical systems .Perform cutting, bending, forming, shaping, and welding operations using TIG and MIG processes on stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel .Fit, align, and assemble components and subassemblies using engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications .Perform precision measurements using calipers, gauges, micrometers, templates, and other inspection tools to ensure dimensional accuracy .Verify completed assemblies meet design and quality requirements .Bodywork Surface Preparatio nPerform bodywork operations including panel straightening, metal shaping, filler application, sanding, leveling, and surface correction .Repair dents, weld seams, surface imperfections, and fabrication marks to achieve smooth, uniform surfaces ready for finishing .Conduct grinding, smoothing, polishing, edge finishing, and texture-matching activities as required .Prepare metal and composite surfaces for painting and protective coating applications .Automotive-Grade Painting Finishin gApply primers, base coats, top coats, clear coats, and protective coatings using HVLP or equivalent spray equipment .Mix, match, and adjust paint materials to achieve accurate color consistency and finish quality .Perform wet sanding, buffing, polishing, and final finish inspections to achieve high-quality cosmetic standards .Maintain proper curing, drying, and finishing processes to ensure coating durability and appearance .Maintain a clean and controlled paint environment to minimize contamination and defects .Prototype Development Engineering Suppor tSupport prototype fabrication, testing, and refinement activities for new product development initiatives .Collaborate with engineering, design, and manufacturing teams to improve manufacturability and fabrication efficiency .Provide rapid modifications, repairs, and finish adjustments during development, testing, and validation phases .Recommend practical design and process improvements based on fabrication and finishing experience .Shop Operations Safet yMaintain fabrication, welding, painting, and finishing equipment including welders, brakes, grinders, compressors, and spray systems .Follow all safety procedures related to welding, grinding, painting, ventilation, personal protective equipment, and chemical handling .Maintain organized work areas and proper inventory levels of materials, consumables, and tools .Support standardized workflows and documentation to ensure production consistency and quality .Additional Responsibilitie sAssist with assembly, packaging, crating, shipping preparation, and field installation activities when required .Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives involving tooling, fabrication methods, workflow optimization, and facility layout .Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned Qualificatio nsRequired Skills Experien ceMinimum of 5 years of experience in metal fabrication, bodywork, automotive finishing, or related manufacturing environment s.Strong TIG and MIG welding skills with experience working on stainless steel, aluminum, and mild steel component s.Experience with body filler application, panel straightening, metal shaping, sanding, and surface restoration technique s.Proficiency with HVLP spray equipment, multi-stage paint systems, primers, clear coats, industrial coatings, and curing processe s.Experience operating fabrication equipment such as shears, brakes, rollers, sanders, grinders, saws, and CNC machiner y.Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, fabrication packages, and CAD-generated documentatio n.Strong understanding of dimensional accuracy, fit-up, and quality workmanship standard s.
