    Laboratory Manager - Concrete & Materials Testing

    Brayman Construction Corporation is seeking a qualified Laboratory Manager to oversee onsite concrete and materials testing operations for the $769.9 million Montgomery Locks and Dam project, awarded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Monaca.

    This major infrastructure initiative involves removal of the existing lock chamber and construction of a new 110-ft by 600-ft primary lock chamber at the Montgomery Locks and Dam on the Ohio River. The project includes in-the-wet construction, cofferdam installation, and large-scale mass concrete operations extending through anticipated completion in 2030.

    This position plays a critical role in supporting the project's quality control program by managing all laboratory operations associated with concrete production, aggregate testing, concrete cylinder curing, and compressive strength testing.

    Position Summary

    The Laboratory Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the onsite quality control laboratory utilized to support batch plant production and project material compliance. This role manages laboratory personnel, testing procedures, documentation, equipment calibration, and coordination with project quality control, production, and field operations teams.

    The Laboratory Manager ensures all testing activities are performed in accordance with project specifications and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers quality standards.

    Essential Responsibilities

    Safety Documentation & Compliance

    Collaborate with Safety Director to schedule and coordinate safety training for all companiesMaintain and control all safety-related documentation, including policies, procedures, training records, SDS, permits, audits, and inspection reports.Ensure documents comply with OSHA, DOT, EPA, state, and company-specific regulatory requirements.Manage document version control, approvals, retention schedules, and secure archiving.Support regulatory inspections, audits, and internal/external compliance reviews.Track corrective actions, training completions, and record retention deadlines.Coordinate distribution of updated safety documents company-wide.Work with HR & Safety to obtain all training from all employees and upload in appropriate database systems.

    Claims Management

    Administer workers' compensation, general liability, auto liability, and property claims.Serve as primary liaison between employees, management, insurance carriers, third-party administrators (TPAs), medical providers, and legal counsel.Ensure timely claim reporting`, documentation, and regulatory filings.Monitor claim status, reserves, return-to-work programs, and settlement progress.Maintain confidential claim files and accurate tracking records.Assist with accident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action documentation.Support litigation preparation by organizing claim evidence, witness statements, and records.

    Legal / Paralegal Support

    Provide paralegal-level assistance for legal, regulatory, and compliance matters.Draft, review, and organize legal documents, correspondence, discovery responses, and subpoenas.Manage litigation holds, document production, and evidence preservation.Coordinate with outside counsel, internal stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.Maintain legal files, case management systems, calendars, and deadlines.Conduct basic legal research related to employment law, safety regulations, and compliance.Assist with contract review support, policy development, and risk assessments.

    SUMMARY OF CONSTRUCTION MANAGER - INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Develop site logistics plans, construction sequencing, schedules, and work plans.Solicit pricing, evaluate bids, award and hire subcontractors and suppliers.Prepare scope sheets, compare proposals, and select vendor and subcontractors.Coordinate with project managers, design teams, subcontractors, and vendors.Manage PEMB erection, structural steel, concrete foundations, utilities, site work, mechanical/electrical installations, and interior build-out.Review change orders, RFIs, and field directives for cost and schedule impacts.Resolve design conflicts, unforeseen conditions, or constructability issues promptly.Verify quantities, work completion, and subcontractor progress for pay applications.Assist with punch lists, commissioning, equipment start-up, and turnover packages.Oversee site demobilization, final inspections, and occupancy certification.

    QUALIFICATIONS FOR CONSTRUCTION MANAGER - INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS:

    Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or similar (preferred).5+ years of industrial or commercial building construction supervision.Strong knowledge of concrete, steel, PEMB systems, MEP work, and site development.Direct experience soliciting, pricing, negotiating, and hiring subcontractors and suppliers.Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, PlanGrid, MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar tools.

    SAFETY

    This is a Safety Sensitive Position requiring work on project sites, including federal projects. Project sites contain various safety hazards associated with heavy construction. This position may require working at heights, in confined spaces, around heavy equipment, and under constantly changing circumstances. This position may also entail project site work at night and on weekends on an as needed basis. This position will be subject to more stringent drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.
