OBJECTIVE:
The Office of Teaching & Learning ensures that all educators have access to the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to provide every BPS student with a high-quality, culturally and linguistically sustaining, and well-rounded education that prepares them to actively and responsibly read, write, reason, communicate, create, and compute effectively in a global society. Within the Office of Teaching & Learning, the Department of Global Learning provides oversight, instructional guidance, and support for International Travel, Global Understanding programming, and World Languages courses.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
World Languages is one of the five core disciplines and is an essential part of all students’ education. The Boston Public School’s focus is to deepen students’ cross-cultural competency, preparing them for the 21st-century global society. BPS believes that all students should benefit from being multilingual and multicultural.
The Program Directors of World Languages will implement a standards-based instructional curriculum framework and professional development plan for the district’s world languages teachers. The Program Directors will ensure that the world languages program is a planned, articulated curricula that helps students develop skills in three modes of communication (Interpersonal, Presentational, Interpretive); build insight into the target culture and that of students’ own; develop positive attitudes towards people of diverse backgrounds; and create a willingness to take risks in their endeavors in learning a new language.
The Program Directors of World Languages will collaborate internally within the department and work closely with schools to implement standards-based language programs, providing professional development. They will identify community partners to enhance individual schools’ language programs and seek various funding opportunities to support language and cultural study opportunities for both teachers and students, both within and outside the United States.
The Program Directors are expected to have expertise in the content of World Languages, including the 2021 Massachusetts World Languages Curriculum Frameworks and the ACTFL National Standards for World Languages. The Program Directors should be prepared to collaborate meaningfully with colleagues in central office departments, school and network administrators, teachers and teacher leaders, families, and outside Consulates and partners to enhance teaching and learning for all students in all schools.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Implement a standards-based K-12 world languages program for the districtIdentify high-quality instructional materials and plan for the implementation and creation of standards-aligned thematic units of instruction across all languages offered from Level One to Level Four.Collaborate with teacher leaders to develop and deliver world language curriculum and resources.Analyze the current language offerings to make appropriate program and policy recommendations for the district.Work with school leadership to evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of programs and curricula.Identify best practices, teacher leaders, and suggest necessary changes to build a stronger world languages program for the district.Develop and lead a year-long plan for professional development in alignment with the 2021 Massachusetts World Languages Curriculum Frameworks.Develop and manage resources that support and enhance world languages learning.Develop a budget to support professional development and other world language-related activities.Seek and collaborate with universities, foreign government representatives, and community agencies.Identify, communicate, and implement a plan of continued professional growth and development for world languages teachers.Lead the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of year-round, city-wide, and school-based workshops, courses, institutes, and other professional development opportunities, including the Teacher Summer Institute.Identify and support world language teacher leaders, coaches, and mentors in their professional development efforts.Seek and secure funding opportunities to support the mission and strategic objectives of the world languages programs.Sustain and expand the existing community support for individual schools, teachers, and students.Represent the BPS world languages program at district, local, and national meetings and conferences.Assist school-based supervisors with establishing effective world languages performance evaluation processes and support.sAssist school leaders in the hiring of qualified world languages teachersImplement the Massachusetts State Seal of BiliteracyLead data-driven research into MA State Seal of Biliteracy results and share with individual schools and the district leadership teamImplement the new 2021 Massachusetts World Languages Framework Implementation provided by DESEWork with DESE and the surrounding districts on the proposed Heritage Languages FrameworkAttend all World Languages Leadership Network sessions provided by DESEProvide coaching/support to world languages teachers in the districtPresent at World Languages conferences such as ACTFL, NECTFL, and MAFLAPerform other related duties as requested by the Executive Director of Global Learning.Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in world languages or a related field of study.5+ years teaching world languages with 2 plus years administrative experience, preferably in an urban environment similar to BostonProfessional License Certification in the teaching of world languagesMinimum Advanced, Low level of language proficiency in a language other than EnglishKnowledge of ACTFL Standards, 2021 Massachusetts World Languages Curriculum FrameworksStrong organizational and management skills with demonstrated experience in leadership, team building, and supervisionDemonstrated success working with teachers and/or administrators in a leadership and professional development capacityDemonstrated success collaborating with community agencies on the implementation of programs and professional developmentStrong interpersonal skillsDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally, including documentation, recordkeeping, and correspondenceAbility to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize work, and meet multiple deadlinesAbility to work as part of a team and motivate others to meet goalsCurrent authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment

Boston Public Schools seeks within The Office of Teaching and Learning the ability to ensure that all educators have access to the knowledge, skills, and resources that they need to provide high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) to every BPS student with a high-quality, culturally, and linguistically sustaining, and well-rounded education that prepares every student to actively and responsibly read, write, reason, communicate, create, and compute effectively within a global society.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The STEM Program Director resides in the Office of Teaching and Learning within the Boston Public Schools, reporting to the Executive Director of STEM. The STEM Program Director is responsible for providing world-class, practice-changing professional learning to schools. This is done by providing curricular guidance through pacing, training, coaching, and modeling while collaborating with regional teams consisting of the regional superintendents, core academics, coaches, liaisons, and school leadership to advance equity within the Boston Public Schools.The Program Director is a crucial member of the STEM department who promotes the mission of sustaining and inclusionary practices. The STEM Program Director will work closely with all departments for the successful implementation of high quality instructional materials (HQIM) in Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics.
The position will have a particular emphasis on problem-solving for and providing district-wide, regional/school-specific responses. The Program Director is expected to have knowledge of and experience with high-quality instructional materials ( HQIM ) that directly impact our 3-6 elementary grades or 7-12 secondary grades of the Boston Public Schools. Candidates should possess an in-depth knowledge of the STE, Computer Science, & Mathematics MA frameworks, the BPS Equitable Literacy framework, and the standards for STEM practice. Candidates should be prepared to collaborate meaningfully with colleagues in central office departments, school and regional administrators, teachers, teacher leaders, instructional coaches, families, and outside partners to strengthen STEM teaching and learning for all students in all schools. This role will focus on ensuring all students receive access to a meaningful STEM curriculum to build strong problem solving, critical thinking, & Design Thinking skills, and graduate from high school well-prepared for college, career, and life.
Provide World-Class, Practice-Changing Professional Learning
Support teachers in the effective implementation of research-based instructional practices using standards-aligned instructional materials to improve student outcomes;Develop and provide professional development to support the improvement of core instruction and the implementation of the STEM Frameworks;Create, curate, or identify professional development tools and resources that support the consistent implementation of aligned curriculum materials, research-based instructional practices, and formative assessments in order to address the integrity of core content and the expectations of the STEM Frameworks;Design and provide professional development for teachers, teacher leaders, and administrators to support the use of tools and resources identified to strengthen STEM teaching and learning;Create, curate, or identify tools and resources that articulate and highlight system-wide priorities and policies for educational and professional learning as they relate to STEM instruction;Ensure student access to standards-aligned, essentials-informed curriculum.
Develop processes and practices for monitoring the implementation of the instructional tools and resources and any accompanying professional development;Support efforts of the Office of Teaching & Learning by creating, curating, or identifying tools and resources to support system-wide priorities and policies as they relate to STEM, including the implementation of the STEM Frameworks and the BPS Essentials for Instructional Equity;Create, curate, or identify curricular resources and tools to support full alignment to the STEM Frameworks and monitor the use of these resources and tools;Develop, implement, and communicate supports that enable the supervision and evaluation of STEM instruction in schools to ensure continuity from pre-kindergarten through graduation;Participate in classroom and school visits focused on effective standards-aligned instructional practices in STEM, review data on student performance in STEM, and provide teachers and administrators with next steps to strengthen STEM teaching and learning;Advance systems of collaboration across BPS, the Division of Academics & T&L

OBJECTIVE:
The Office of Teaching & Learning ensures that all educators have access to the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to provide every BPS student with a high-quality, culturally and linguistically sustaining, and well-rounded education that prepares them to actively and responsibly read, write, reason, communicate, create, and compute effectively in a global society. Within the Office of Teaching & Learning, the Department of Global Learning provides oversight, instructional guidance, and support for International Travel, Global Understanding programming, and World Languages courses.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
World Languages is one of the five core disciplines and is an essential part of all students’ education. The Boston Public School’s focus is to deepen students’ cross-cultural competency, preparing them for the 21st-century global society. BPS believes that all students should benefit from being multilingual and multicultural.
The Program Directors of World Languages will implement a standards-based instructional curriculum framework and professional development plan for the district’s world languages teachers. The Program Directors will ensure that the world languages program is a planned, articulated curricula that helps students develop skills in three modes of communication (Interpersonal, Presentational, Interpretive); build insight into the target culture and that of students’ own; develop positive attitudes towards people of diverse backgrounds; and create a willingness to take risks in their endeavors in learning a new language.
The Program Directors of World Languages will collaborate internally within the department and work closely with schools to implement standards-based language programs, providing professional development. They will identify community partners to enhance individual schools’ language programs and seek various funding opportunities to support language and cultural study opportunities for both teachers and students, both within and outside the United States.
The Program Directors are expected to have expertise in the content of World Languages, including the 2021 Massachusetts World Languages Curriculum Frameworks and the ACTFL National Standards for World Languages. The Program Directors should be prepared to collaborate meaningfully with colleagues in central office departments, school and network administrators, teachers and teacher leaders, families, and outside Consulates and partners to enhance teaching and learning for all students in all schools.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Implement a standards-based K-12 world languages program for the districtIdentify high-quality instructional materials and plan for the implementation and creation of standards-aligned thematic units of instruction across all languages offered from Level One to Level Four.Collaborate with teacher leaders to develop and deliver world language curriculum and resources.Analyze the current language offerings to make appropriate program and policy recommendations for the district.Work with school leadership to evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of programs and curricula.Identify best practices, teacher leaders, and suggest necessary changes to build a stronger world languages program for the district.Develop and lead a year-long plan for professional development in alignment with the 2021 Massachusetts World Languages Curriculum Frameworks.Develop and manage resources that support and enhance world languages learning.Develop a budget to support professional development and other world language-related activities.Seek and collaborate with universities, foreign government representatives, and community agencies.Identify, communicate, and implement a plan of continued professional growth and development for world languages teachers.Lead the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of year-round, city-wide, and school-based workshops, courses, institutes, and other professional development opportunities, including the Teacher Summer Institute.Identify and support world language teacher leaders, coaches, and mentors in their professional development efforts.Seek and secure funding opportunities to support the mission and strategic objectives of the world languages programs.Sustain and expand the existing community support for individual schools, teachers, and students.Represent the BPS world languages program at district, local, and national meetings and conferences.Assist school-based supervisors with establishing effective world languages performance evaluation processes and support.sAssist school leaders in the hiring of qualified world languages teachersImplement the Massachusetts State Seal of BiliteracyLead data-driven research into MA State Seal of Biliteracy results and share with individual schools and the district leadership teamImplement the new 2021 Massachusetts World Languages Framework Implementation provided by DESEWork with DESE and the surrounding districts on the proposed Heritage Languages FrameworkAttend all World Languages Leadership Network sessions provided by DESEProvide coaching/support to world languages teachers in the districtPresent at World Languages conferences such as ACTFL, NECTFL, and MAFLAPerform other related duties as requested by the Executive Director of Global Learning.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in world languages or a related field of study.5+ years teaching world languages with 2 plus years administrative experience, preferably in an urban environment similar to BostonProfessional License Certification in the teaching of world languagesMinimum Advanced, Low level of language proficiency in a language other than EnglishKnowledge of ACTFL Standards, 2021 Massachusetts World Languages Curriculum FrameworksStrong organizational and management skills with demonstrated experience in leadership, team building, and supervisionDemonstrated success working with teachers and/or administrators in a leadership and professional development capacityDemonstrated success collaborating with community agencies on the implementation of programs and professional developmentStrong interpersonal skillsDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally, including documentation, recordkeeping, and correspondenceAbility to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize work, and meet multiple deadlinesAbility to work as part of a team and motivate others to meet goals

Qualifications - Required
Master’s degree in Bilingual Education, ESL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.Bilingual Education Endorsement or proven demonstration of fluency in Cabo Verdean Creole prior to offer extended.Massachusetts Administrator License as a Supervisor/Director (SPED or ESL) or Principal/Assistant Principal licenseMinimum of 3-5 years of experience teaching in a bilingual education setting.Strong understanding of second language acquisition, dual language programs, and best practices in bilingual education.Demonstrated success in teacher coaching, professional development, and instructional leadership.Knowledge of compliance regulations related to bilingual education and multilingual learners with disabilities.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, families, and community partners.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in data-driven decision-making.

Master’s degree in Bilingual Education, ESL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.Bilingual Education Endorsement or proven demonstration of fluency in Spanish prior to offer extended.Massachusetts Administrator License as a Supervisor/Director (SPED or ESL) or Principal/Assistant Principal licenseMinimum of 3-5 years of experience teaching in a bilingual education setting.Strong understanding of second language acquisition, dual language programs, and best practices in bilingual education.Demonstrated success in teacher coaching, professional development, and instructional leadership.Knowledge of compliance regulations related to bilingual education and multilingual learners with disabilities.Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including teachers, administrators, families, and community partners.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in data-driven decision-making.
Qualifications - Preferred
Experience in program leadership, curriculum development, or educational administration.Proficiency in data analysis and instructional technology tools.Experience working in an urban school district setting.BPS values linguistic diversity and believes that candidates who speak another language bring added value to the classroom, school, and district culture and diversity. BPS is particularly interested in candidates who are fluent in one of BPS' official languages: Spanish, Creole (Cabo Verdean), Creole (Haitian), Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, & Somali.In order to best serve all students, BPS prefers all core content teachers to be certified in their subject area and one or both of the following: Moderate Disabilities, English as a Second Language (at the appropriate grade level(s)).
