    System Technician

    JOB SUMERY:

    Job Description duties are not limited to but do include the following: System Technician

    will install, maintain, and repair fiber optic communication lines, HFC, and other systems.

    The System Technician is responsible for both overhead and underground cables and

    wires. Assists team with questions or required help to complete jobs. Overall

    responsibilities may include installing underground lines, climbing poles to repair overhead

    lines, or inspecting lines for possible repair or replacement.


    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Build aerial plant to specifications to include framing poles, placing new strand, lashing new cable to bare strand, and over-lashing cable to existing strand and

    cable.

    • Placing down guys/anchors, snowshoes, placing fiber and coax terminals, line extenders, miniBridgers, nodes, grounding & bonding of strands, placement of

    riser guards, trimming trees, pulling of cable/fiber short distances in conduit, installing pole mounted cabinets, placing ground rods and installing VGR’s on

    poles, swapping lashers on poles either from a bucket truck or from hooks/ladders.

    • Dismantles, moves, and removes aerial, underground, or building wire, cable associated equipment, and hardware.

    • Deploying and removing various traffic control devices that protect the work area while on a street or roadway.

    • Participate, adhere to, and support all safety-related policies, processes, and programs.

    • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e., backup alarms, the smell of smoke or fumes, different colored warning

    tags, and warning sirens.

    • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered.

    • Take corrective actions as needed reporting any issues to your supervisor.

    • Operates power equipment such as compressors, pumps, blowers, hydraulic diggers, and hydraulic aerial bucket trucks.

    • Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing principal duties and accountabilities.

    • On-call rotation responding and restoring services for emergency calls, responsible for being on the job at short notice to repair damaged cables until

    service is restored.

    • Work outdoors in all kinds of weather and at all times of the day or night.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Perform cable splicing/termination in accordance with industry standards.

    • Read and follow design engineers’ instructions and specifications, maintain the scope of work on the project and adhere to timelines and safety procedures.

    • Follow PM, Manager, and Director’s instructions, maintain the scope of work on the project and adhere to timelines and safety procedures.

    • Prepare engineering field notes. Interpret, splice diagrams, buried underground, and aerial telecom facilities in records, on maps and in the field and make

    recommendations for changes in fiber assignments. Post all new work and correct any errors found in the field to the company database.

    • Understand and adhere to customer timelines.

    • Team player that coordinates and communicates fiber activities with other employees, departments, and management.

    • Serve as a corporate liaison to champion cultural change by encouraging critical corporate initiatives, a positive work environment, the enhancement of

    organizational morale all with the goal to drive operational efficiency.

    • Assist and help I&R at times. May include helping techs, installations, and service calls

    • Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.


    Physical Requirement:

    • Must be able to stand and walk up to ten hours per day and climb multiple sets

    of stairs while carrying materials weighing between 40 and 60 lbs.

    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time and push or pull 50-

    pound loads at a time.

    • Must be able to ride in a vehicle for up to four hours to travel to and from job

    sites.

    • Must be able to work in varying weather and temperatures.

    • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather;

    this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.

    • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.

    • Must have flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the business.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $26.00 - $30 an hour DOE

    Reports to: Construction Supervisor
