    Accounting & Operations Manager

    Location: North Houston, TX 77067
    Schedule: Full-Time, Hybrid — Minimum 3 Days Onsite
    Compensation: $120,000–$150,000 Base Salary, Depending on Experience


    About the Opportunity

    A global manufacturer of highly engineered oilfield equipment and valves is seeking a Accounting & Operations Manager to oversee accounting and business operations for its Houston facility.


    This role will initially have a strong accounting focus, including AP, AR, inventory, month-end close, financial controls, and the transition from a legacy ERP system to SAP. Over time, the position will expand into broader operations, process improvement, project management, vendor management, and team leadership.


    The Houston facility works closely with the company’s corporate office in China, so business-level Mandarin and English communication skills are required. The successful candidate will communicate regularly with the China team and must be comfortable working across cultures and time zones.


    Reporting directly to the CEO, this person will become the primary day-to-day leader of the Houston operation as the business continues to grow.


    Key Responsibilities

    Accounting & Finance

    Manage AP, AR, inventory, payroll, cash management, and general accounting for the Houston operation.Own the month-end close, including accruals, depreciation, reconciliations, inventory accounting, and standard costing.Reconcile financial and transactional information from the China team with supporting documentation.Process transactions in Dynamics AX and transition to SAP as part of the ERP implementation.Prepare payments and wire transfers for executive approval.Provide management reporting on revenues, costs, margins, and project performance.Assist with banking, treasury, letters of credit, VAT, tax, audit, and compliance matters.

    Operations & Projects

    Lead the Houston side of the SAP implementation and help align processes with the company’s global standards.Identify opportunities to improve, automate, or outsource inefficient processes.Partner with operations, manufacturing, sales, and supply chain teams in Houston and China.Manage the Houston facility expansion, including contractors, equipment, timelines, and project coordination.Take ownership of special projects and provide the CEO and ownership with regular updates and recommendations.

    Vendor & Team Management

    Evaluate and manage outside accounting, CPA, legal, and other professional service providers.Build strong relationships with vendors, contractors, customers, and business partners.Serve as the senior day-to-day presence for the Houston operation, particularly when the CEO is traveling.Supervise office and production-control personnel as the team grows.Monitor business activity, identify issues, and escalate matters appropriately to the CEO and ownership.


    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, with exposure to operations beyond traditional accounting.Strong knowledge of GAAP, inventory accounting, standard costing, financial controls, and month-end close.Business-level Mandarin proficiency required, with the ability to communicate effectively with the corporate office in China both verbally and in writing.Strong English written and verbal communication skills.Experience working across international teams, cultures, and time zones.Understanding of manufacturing operations, including purchasing, inventory, production, order flow, and shipping.ERP experience; Dynamics AX and/or SAP strongly preferred.Strong Excel, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Self-directed and comfortable making sound decisions without extensive supervision.Ability to build relationships across accounting, operations, manufacturing, sales, and supply chain.Houston-area resident able to work onsite at least three days per week.


    Preferred Experience

    Manufacturing, industrial equipment, oil & gas, or engineered products.U.S. subsidiary of an international or foreign-owned company.Direct experience working with a corporate headquarters outside the United States.SAP implementation or other major ERP implementation experience.Process automation, outsourcing, or workflow improvement experience.Facility expansion, construction, or major operational project experience.Supervisory experience.CPA or progress toward CPA.

    Reporting directly to the Firm Administrator/Controller, the Senior Accountant will take ownership of key accounting functions while also providing support across several areas of firm operations.     Key Responsibilities

    Accounting & Financial Operations

    Manage day-to-day accounting activities and assist with the firm's overall financial operations.Perform general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities.Assist with financial reporting and provide accurate financial information to firm leadership.Monitor and maintain accounting records to ensure accuracy and completeness.Help supervise and provide direction to accounting clerks.Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.

    Client Billing & E-Billing

    Assist with the firm's client billing process from bill preparation through final distribution.Review billing information for accuracy and work with attorneys and staff to resolve discrepancies.Assist with electronic billing requirements and client-specific billing guidelines.Help troubleshoot rejected or exception invoices and coordinate corrections.Support collections and other client accounting activities as needed.

    Expense Reimbursements & Payroll Support

    Review and process employee and attorney expense reimbursements.Ensure expenses are properly documented, coded, and approved.Provide backup support for payroll processing and related administrative functions.Assist with payroll-related reporting and reconciliation as needed.

    Firm Operations & Administration

    Assist the Firm Administrator/Controller with various operational responsibilities and special projects.Provide support with Facilities Management, including coordination with vendors, building management, maintenance providers, and office-related services.Manage the firm's IT subscription services, including tracking subscriptions, renewals, users, invoices, and vendor relationships.Assist with technology-related administrative tasks and coordinate with outside IT providers when needed.Help monitor recurring vendor expenses and identify opportunities for cost control.Provide backup support for other administrative functions to help ensure continuity of firm operations.


    Qualifications

    5+ years of accounting experience, preferably with significant experience in a law firm or legal professional services environment.Law firm Staff Accounting experience is required.Experience with law firm billing and e-billing strongly preferred.Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.Experience with attorney/employee expense reimbursements and payroll support.Strong Excel skills and proficiency with accounting software.Juris experience is a plus, but not required.Experience supervising, mentoring, or providing direction to accounting staff is preferred.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Must be comfortable communicating with attorneys, firm leadership, staff, vendors, and outside service providers.Must present information and deliver messages in a friendly, personable, and professional manner.Strong judgment, discretion, attention to detail, and follow-through are essential.Must be comfortable working on-site in the Galleria area.
