Construction Laborer – Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
The Construction Laborer supports daily field operations by performing a variety of physical tasks essential to project execution. Candidates must demonstrate reliability, safety awareness, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
1. Basic Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred (not always required based on experience)Minimum of 1–2 years of construction or general labor experience preferredAbility to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check (as required for federal/DOD/VA/NASA projects)Valid driver’s license preferred
2. Physical Requirements
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periodsCapable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials up to 50–75 lbsAbility to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces or at heightsAble to work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, humidity)
3. Technical & Job Skills
Basic knowledge of construction tools, equipment, and materialsAbility to follow instructions from supervisors, foremen, and skilled trades personnelExperience with tasks such as:Site preparation and cleanupMaterial handling and stagingAssisting carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and HVAC techniciansDemolition and debris removalFamiliarity with construction site safety practices and PPE usage
4. Safety & Compliance Requirements
Must comply with OSHA safety standards and site-specific safety plansOSHA 10 certification preferred (OSHA 30 a plus)Ability to adhere to EM 385-1-1 (for USACE/NASA projects) and other federal safety requirementsWillingness to participate in daily safety briefings (Toolbox Talks) and follow all safety protocols
5. Work Environment Expectations
Ability to work on active construction sites, including:Industrial facilitiesHealthcare/occupied facilities (requiring infection control measures)Government installations with controlled accessWillingness to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, or night shifts as required
