    Electrical Foreman

    This position is located On-site in our Bayou La Batre, AL location.


    Birdon America, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Foreman to join our growing team at our Bayou La Batre, Alabama shipyard. This is a great opportunity for you to provide your knowledge and skills to a growing company in building a new Coast Guard vessel.

    Roles and Responsibilities:Advanced knowledge of Direct Current and Alternating Currents.Capable of installing complex electronic components.Capable of reading electrical diagrams and estimating cable footage required based on drawings.Capable of directing the proper organization, banding, and packing of electrical cableways and transits.Possesses excellent organizational skills.Must be able to follow schedules and deadlines.Provide problem solving resource constraints.Ability to effectively lead and manage a team of 12 to 15 people.Must be able to complete yearly performance reviews on crew members.Must be able to work safely and promote a safety conscience culture.Employees must procure a number of specific tools; a list will be provided.Must be able to read and comprehend electrical schematics.Knowledge of Microsoft Word and basic Excel.

    Qualifications / Skills / Experience:


    5 to 7 years supervisor experienceFundamental knowledge in electrical systems as it pertains to boat building.Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, squat or kneel regularly, as well as climb stairs and ladders to complete tasks.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    Meets daily with electrical engineering team to escalate roadblocks in order to have the barriers removed.Develop electrical power generation and power distribution systems for marine applications.Create and review wiring routing tables with passthrough information, termination identification, wire type, connector part numbers, label descriptions in MS Access.Produce electrical plant load analysis along with wire sizing and component protection in accordance with ABS and other classification society standards.Establish functional and acceptance test plans for system designs.Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with the specifications, drawings, and terms of the contract including ABS and other classification society standards within assigned SWBS section.Creator and reviewer of Engineering Change Notifications to formally release design data.Development of engineering deliverables in accordance with engineering processes, ensuring safe, fit for purpose engineering deliverables, and presenting material associated with the above life-cycle reviews.Coordinates with sub-contractors and vendors to receive inputs to design activities.Review and check ShipConstructor 3D models and associated 2D drawings/schematics in accordance with company, industry, and project standards.Create engineering reports to show compliance with project requirements based on design, test, analysis, and similarity.Partner with quality to troubleshoot installation issues, determine root cause, and recommend solutions.Reviews peers work for compliance with engineering standards.

    Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering7 years of marine electrical engineering experienceExperience with government procurement and contracting, in particular reviewing requirements and performing specification traces.Electrical System Functional Design – Experience developing marine power distribution, lighting, motor controllers, and alarm systems.Electrical System Analysis – Expert in performing electric plant load analysis, short circuit analysis, voltage drop, and breaker coordination studies.Electrical System Detail Design – Experience managing wireway, penetration, cable termination, cable labels, and cable routing database design.Electrical System Design Requirements - Strong understanding of ABS, IEEE, IEC, NEC, CFR, and MIL-SPEC electrical system requirementsProficient in CAD - AutoCAD.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    Distinguish colors on Multi-Conductor Cable and understand color codes.Connect Single Phase and Three Phase Motors.Can connect Single and Three Phase Transformers.Proper operation of ABT and MBT.Work with all voltages in AC Power Distribution up to 1000Volts.Parallel circuitry in both AC and DC.Connect Generators, check phase rotation of Generator, and parallel Generators.Change rotation on a three-phase motor.Knows proper sizes of Motor Starters (NEMA Ratings).Can check amp draw on equipment.Can trouble shoot wiring and equipment.Can troubleshoot MSLC and DSLC circuits.Terminates and understand PLC Circuits and Motor controllers.

    Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

    Possesses a High School Diploma or GED.5 years of experience as a marine electrician.Fundamental knowledge in marine electrical systems.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    Design, develop, and test electronic control systems for remote and autonomous maritime operations.Create and implement technical designs, including control schematics, process diagrams, and automation logic.Configure and program PLC/HMI systems and develop control software using CAN bus protocols.Analyze system performance through modeling and testing; troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.Design marine electrical power generation and distribution systems and integrate C5i technologies into vessel platforms.Collaborate with customers, vendors, and cross-functional teams to support design development and execution.Ensure compliance with contract requirements, engineering standards, and ABS regulations.Manage engineering changes (ECR/ECN), review and approve design documentation, andmaintainconfiguration control via PLM systems.Partner with quality and production teams to resolve installation issues and support production readiness.Lead and mentor a small team; review work for technical accuracy andstandards ofcompliance.Drive continuous improvement throughthe developmentof best practices, documentation, and process enhancements.Operate independently while managing complex engineering tasks and priorities.

    Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

    BS degree preferred in Electrical Engineering or similar.10+ years of control system design to include feedback control systems using CAN bus protocol.Desire marine electrical knowledge to include power generation, power distribution, navigation, communication, video, equipment installations, junction box installation, cable routing, cable ways and penetrations, and lighting systems.Experience with MS Office, BC Dynamics, AutoCAD, Zuken, Python, PDM, PLM, MRP, Sharepoint, and Access.The ability to work unsupervised efficiently and effectively.Have excellent communication, teamwork, leadership, conflict management, and critical thinking skills.5 years program management experience.Ability to be lead technical advisor to achieve scope, cost, and schedule targets.Ability to pay attention to detail and to work on complex configurations.Understanding of compliance to AS9100 and Mil-STD-973.
