    This position will review development plans for conformance to local codes, plans, and policies; inspect and survey development sites; collect, organize, and analyze information pertaining to plans and developments; advise developers; prepare reports and graphics for attendance at Planning and Zoning Commission and attend Municipal Board/City Council Meetings as necessary and provide testimony at public hearings.

    Additionally, this position will collaborate with other consultants; advise citizens, developers, and officials on code requirements; schedule petitioners for pre-application meetings; and maintain comprehensive records for the Planning and Zoning Commission, including case files, agendas, and minutes.

    This position also handles general development and zoning inquiries; advises residents, contractors, developers, and other members of the public on the procedures administered by the Client; reviews plans and reports prepared by others; and attends staff and committee meetings.

    A bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in urban planning or a related field is strongly preferred. Relevant experience in urban planning, economic development, or architecture within a governmental or consulting environment is also preferred.

    The ideal candidate will have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups; work within time constraints, and to prioritize work; review and analyze development plans and to make recommendations based upon said analysis; prepare plans, reports, and studies; make verbal presentations and persuade individuals and groups to follow certain courses of action; perform duties with initiative and a minimum amount of supervision; ability to make accurate design drawings and mathematical computations; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; maintain professionalism and objectivity; and be tactful and courteous in stressful situations.

    Availability to attend evening planning meetings as necessary.

    The competitive salary for this position is $65,000.00 to $80,000.00 per year, depending on experience & qualifications.

    Job DescriptionJob Description

    B & F Construction Code Services, Inc. seeks a dedicated Mechanical and Energy Inspector and Plan Reviewer to ensure  that all mechanical systems, including HVAC, boilers,  refrigeration, amd ventilation, are installed, maintained, and operating according to safety, energy, and building codes.  The ideal canidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical and energy codes, a focus on efficiency and safety, and experience in building inspections or energy management.  The position is based in our Elgin, IL office. We provide uniforms, personal protective equipment (PPE), a work phone, and a company vehicle for your use during inspections.

    Our company offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, and a 401(k) plan with matching contributions. B & F Construction Code Services, Inc. also provides paid sick and vacation time.

    Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with a guaranteed 40 hours of work each week. The role involves both office work and field inspections. We also offer on-the-job training, provide study materials, and cover the costs for ICC examination attempts according to our policy.

    Job ResponsibilitiesShall Include:

    Perform commercial, industrial, and residential mechanical/energy inspections.Review construction plans for conformity to ICC Mechanical/energy and the IRC.Perform code enforcement inspections.Provide municipal and private industry code research and reports as assigned.Attend project meetings about plan reviews or inspections.Meet with clients and prospective clients as assigned.Performs exceptional plan reviews and inspections as assigned.Attend meetings with clients and trade associations and represent the company as assigned.Answer code questions and inquiries in writing and over the telephone.Answer inquiries about plan reviews and inspections performed.Maintain applicable certifications by attending training sessions as assigned.

    Job Qualifications:

    Three to five years of demonstrated inspection/plan review experience.Current model code certification (ICC, NEC, and related standards).Multi-tasking ability, flexibility, and capability to work in a fast-paced environment.Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.Basic computer skills.Valid, state-issued driver’s license.Comply with the certification requirements per company policy and as outlined by their supervisor.

    Physical Requirements:

    While conducting inspections, an individual must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements:

    Ability to lift to 25 lbs.Able to walk on construction sites. This includes conducting inspections on uneven surfaces.Able to climb a ladder.Ability to walk up/down multiple flights of steps.Be able to stand for an extended period.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Salary: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
