Job Opportunity: BHSI is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Principal Quality Engineer to serve as the permanent, single threaded owner of Quality Engineering (QE) for the global Surety platform. This is a high impact leadership role responsible for safeguarding platform quality across the entire product lifecycle-global expansion, continuous evolution, production operations, and long-term modernization. You will architect and mature the QE practice, collaborate deeply with engineering, product, operations, underwriters, and vendor partners, and ensure the Surety platform meets the highest standards of functional reliability, performance, automation maturity, and production stability. The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth, strategic thinking, and hands-on leadership of modern quality engineering disciplines. This role leverages GenAI‑enabled enterprise test automation, quality analytics, performance engineering, data‑validation frameworks, and production observability to drive scalable, intelligent quality outcomes. You will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership to architect, implement, and scale modern testing platforms. Duties & Responsibilities: * Single‑Threaded Quality Ownership Serve as the single‑threaded owner of QE for the global Surety platform, accountable for quality outcomes across build, run, and evolve phases. * Quality Strategy & Governance Define, own, and continuously evolve the platform quality and test strategy, including quality gates, release readiness criteria, and risk‑based decision‑making. * Embedded Agile Quality Leadership Act as an embedded quality leader within Agile teams working with product and engineering to ensure testability, clear acceptance criteria, and informed quality decisions throughout release cycles. * Enterprise Test Automation & CI/CD Integration Establish automation as a core engineering capability, leading the design and integration of enterprise‑scale automated testing into CI/CD pipelines across UI, API, integration, and data layers. * Test Data & Environment Strategy Own test data and environment strategies, including synthetic data, masking, seeding, and ensuring stable, representative environments in partnership with DevOps. * Platform Risk Coverage Ensure appropriate quality coverage based on platform risk, spanning functional, integration, regression, performance, and security testing. * Performance & Scalability Assurance Define performance benchmarks and SLAs, oversee load and stress testing aligned to real‑world usage, and proactively prevent performance degradation. * Production Quality & Observability Own the quality dimension of production monitoring and observability, including business‑critical workflows, data integrity, incident response, and post‑incident remediation. * Quality Metrics & Continuous Improvement Define, track, and communicate meaningful quality metrics to improve delivery confidence, reduce defects, and drive continuous improvement. * Practice Building & Team Leadership Build and mature the Quality Engineering practice by establishing standards, playbooks, tooling direction, and mentoring internal and vendor QE teams. Qualifications, Skills and Experience: * 10+ years of experience in QE or Software Testing, with demonstrated success in senior or principal‑level roles leading quality practices within complex enterprise platforms. * Proven ability to design, scale, and sustain QE practices, including automation, regression, performance, and quality governance across build, run, and evolve phases of delivery. * Strong understanding of modern delivery models, including Agile frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and test automation strategies that enable rapid, reliable software delivery. * Demonstrated experience leading distributed and vendor‑based QA/QE teams, including establishing standards, mentoring talent, and driving consistent quality outcomes across geographies. * Broad technical foundation in Quality Engineering, including testing methodologies, automation frameworks, test data strategies, and enterprise‑scale QA tooling. * Experience working effectively in fast‑paced engineering environments, balancing speed, quality, and risk through pragmatic, data‑driven decision making. * Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross‑functionally with engineering, product, operations, and external partners to drive delivery outcomes. * Ability to adapt and continuously learn, staying current with evolving technologies, tools, and industry practices relevant to Quality Engineering. Preferred Qualifications: * Working knowledge of Angular, .NET/C#, SQL Server, REST APIs, and modern test frameworks (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, NUnit/xUnit). * Experience with modern security testing practices (OWASP‑aligned testing, API security validation, vulnerability discovery), with the ability to integrate security considerations into automation, design discussions, and CI/CD pipelines. * Experience leveraging AI‑assisted tools and techniques to enhance QE outcomes, such as generating test scenarios, improving automation coverage, risk‑based testing, defect analysis, or quality analytics. * Knowledge of defect management tools such as Jira, DevOps, Quality Center, or any other defect tool. * Insurance/financial services background preferred; Surety experience strongly preferred. This is a senior Actuarial role focused on pricing, profitability, and analytical support for management liability products, including Directors & Officers (D&O), Errors & Omissions (E&O), Cyber, and Financial Institutions. The individual will have a portfolio-management minded approach and the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with underwriters at a variety of levels. There is the possibility of managing one to two actuarial analysts, dependent on the candidate's experience and interest level in managing. This teammate will take ownership of specific areas of the business and have the freedom to design new analyses or implement improvements. Depending on the teammate's skills, this could encompass pricing models, portfolio analyses, and database management.
