    The Chief of Staff to the President at Barnard College will serve as a strategic partner, execution driver, and integrator, ensuring the President's vision, priorities, and commitments translate into aligned, coordinated action across the College.

    This role operates at the intersection of strategy, leadership, and execution, bringing clarity, structure, and follow-through to a complex and fast-moving environment. The Chief of Staff will enable the President to operate in her strengths - setting direction, building relationships, and leading the institution - while ensuring priorities are clearly defined, effectively communicated, and executed with discipline and consistency. In addition, the Chief of Staff will play a critical role in strengthening alignment, communication, and trust across key stakeholders, including the Board of Trustees, leadership team, other staff, faculty, and alumnae.

    Key Responsibilities

    The Chief of Staff will focus on the following five areas:
    1. Strategic Prioritization & Focus
    Partner with the President to clarify, sequence, and operationalize institutional priorities.Translate high-level vision into clear initiatives, goals, and success metrics.Ensure the President's time and attention are focused on the highest-leverage areas.Act as a rigorous filter, helping the President avoid overextension and unnecessary detail.2. Execution & Cross-Functional Coordination

    Ensure consistent, proactive communication between the President and trustees, alumnae, and other key stakeholders.Translate priorities, decisions, and updates into clear, timely, and accessible messaging.Reduce ambiguity and prevent misalignment by maintaining strong communication cadence and follow-through.Support preparation of high-stakes communications, including board materials and institutional updates.4. Decision Support & Thought Partnership
    Prepare the President for key decisions, meetings, and engagements with synthesized insights and recommendations.Provide perspective on trade-offs, risks, and organizational implications.Serve as a trusted thought partner, helping refine thinking and sharpen priorities before broader communication.Offer direct, candid feedback to strengthen decision-making and leadership effectiveness.5. Special Projects & Institutional Initiatives

Job: Operations Manager: Legal & Strategic Communications Barnard College seeks a proactive, professional, and organized individual to provide administrative support to two offices of the College: the Office of the General Counsel and the Office for Strategic Communications and Government Relations. This position equally supports both offices. Equal time is allocated to each office per a structured weekly schedule. Job Description: Administrative Support * Serve as the primary point of contact for both Offices, handling inquiries with professionalism and discretion. * Draft, edit, and proofread correspondence, reports, presentations, and other documents. * Coordinate logistics for meetings, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and following up on action items. * Manage complex calendars, including scheduling internal and external meetings, travel arrangements, and event coordination. * Maintain centralized organized filing systems (digital and paper), ensuring easy access and confidentiality. * Leverage technology to facilitate smooth and efficient operations of both offices. * Manage subscriptions and paid accounts * Compile and track press clippings * Manage special projects and other duties as assigned Office Operations * Support day-to-day operations of both Offices, including procurement of supplies, expense reporting, invoice tracking and budget tracking. * Prepare legal documents, monitor court dockets, and perform other paralegal tasks under the supervision of an attorney. * Print and organize documents for each department. * Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders on behalf of each office. Skills, Qualifications & Requirements: Required: * Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Minimum of 5 years of administrative experience, preferably in a higher education, legal, communications, or government environment. * Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion. * Excellent organizational and time management skills. * Strong verbal and written communication skills. * High proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and digital collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Workspace). * Ability to work independently, take initiative, as well as collaborate across departments. * Quick learner with strong attention to detail. Preferred: * Proficiency or expertise using Workday systems. * Experience supporting senior executives in legal, public affairs, or higher education contexts. * Comfort and diplomacy in interfacing with high-level external stakeholders and government officials. * Paralegal experience. * Notary license.
