    Job DescriptionJob Description

    The Sr. Project Manager, Transportation manages the full scope of work from preparation of proposal through construction. Duties include overseeing all technical aspects of Transportation/Roadway projects, reviewing all documents for quality control and quality assurance, and coordinating engineers and sub-consultants. This position is based in AVCON PR Services' San Juan, Puerto Rico office.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (may include but are not limited to):

    Project Management:

    Responsible for design and management of transportation/roadway engineering projects including ensuring completeness and accuracy of design effort.Responsible for the various design elements to complete a project system or component with other team members with clear and specified objectives involving conventional types of plans, surveys, investigations, structures, and/or equipment.Prepares complete project documentation to include plans, specifications, and engineer estimates including the collection, assembling, and organizing of project data.Evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to project assignments; formulates and solves problems.Works on multiple projects of moderate to large size using time efficiently to stay within budget and timely delivery.Develops proposals including bid documents, project reports, studies, and other documentation.Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments/projects.Coordinates technical and administrative activities with other internal departments and disciplines participating in the project.Ensures project engineering activities comply with firm and contract requirements and support overall project schedule, scope and budget.Interprets contract specifications and resolves conflicts with contractor on such matters as interpretation of specifications, workmanship, quality of materials, and related matters.Maintains list of project milestones and issues in-progress.Prepares monthly project status reports and change orders.Participates in client/contractor meetings, and resolves client, engineering and management project issues.Prepares project scopes, tasks, budgets, and schedules.

    Business Development:

    Assists in marketing and business development pursuits.Attends industry forums.Identifies potential clients.Interacts and collaborates with clients, officials, contractors, and other project team members.Prepares scope and fee proposals for review.

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.Minimum of 12 years of experience.Experience working with FHWA-funded projects.Experience working with the PR Highway Authority, Metropistas, and/or local municipalities.Working knowledge of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D or BentleyProficiency with MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS

    Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and clients.Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments with minimal supervision.Ability to maintain confidentially and protect privileged client information and documents appropriately.Knowledge of correct English usage including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.

    LICENSURE

    Valid drivers' license and maintenance of satisfactory driving record.Puerto Rico Professional Engineer licensure with ability to obtain licensure in other states.Must be an active member of CIAPR (Colegio de Ingenieros y Agrimensores de Puerto Rico).

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    There are supervisory responsibilities associated with this position.

    ENVIRONMENT

    Work usually takes place in a clean, pleasant, and comfortable office setting. Site visits may occasionally take place in an outdoor environment. Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occasionally be necessary with little or no advanced notice.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit for long periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.     The Mechanical, Plumbing and Fire Protection Design Manager provides managerial and technical supervision to the Facilities team using expertise and experience with complex technical activities, provides guidance on unconventional or complex programs, direction on design techniques, and new approaches to assignments with conflicting criteria. This position is based in AVCON's Orlando, Florida office.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (may include but are not limited to):

    Manages the workload of the Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection Design team.Plans, coordinates, and manages detailed aspects of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering work related to a variety of large and small HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for Commercial, Institutional, and Public Facilities. Preparation of project proposals, tasks, budgets, and schedules.Oversees site investigation projects and construction phased services and provides suggestions for engineering projects to ensure that standards and scope requirements are met.Ensures the accuracy and code compliance of contract documents and reports.Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments/projects.Communicates directly with clients-owners, designers, and contractors concerning project cost, staffing, and scheduling.Assist in the preparation of the project status reports, contract documents, and engineer's estimates including the collection, assembling, and organizing of project data.Seeks out new clients and projects to pursue and assists with the marketing efforts of these projects.Recommends staffing needs to upper management; assists in the hiring process of the Mechanical department by assisting in the preparation of job descriptions, reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and recommending candidates for hire.Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occasionally be necessary with little or no advanced notice.

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering. 10+ years of formal training and experience with at least five (5) years as a Technical Team Leader.Must have experience as a group leader or project engineer on complex, multi-discipline engineering design or projects.Advanced knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection engineering and design and be familiar with applicable Codes, standards, and acceptable industry practices.Must have proven track record of accomplishments as lead design engineer on mechanical projects and be capable of supervising and directing a team of engineers, designers, and support personnel.Construction Administration experience. Proficient with AutoCAD.Proficient with REVIT.Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word. Knowledge of MS PowerPoint, MS Project, and MS SharePoint a plus.
