Maintenance Welder Job Summary
Performs welding repairs and installation of new weldments on power block and solar field equipment and systems. Performs fabrication cutting, grinding, and heating procedures, mechanical repairs, other craft work and labor as required to support overall operations and maintenance activities. Performs in both scheduled and emergency situations. Adheres to proper safety procedures. Incumbents may be assigned to work rotating shifts covering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays and overtime as required.
Maintenance Welder Duties and Responsibilities
Performs "GTAW, "SMAW" and "GMAW" welding repair and fabrication work as directed. Able to pass API / ASME / AWS Welder CertificationsPerforms cutting, welding, or heating procedures as required. Performs all work safely. Maintains a clean work area and vehicle. Performs all tasks assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor. Completes material requisitions in a complete and accurate manner. Writes complete and accurate accounts of work performed onto work orders. Operates heavy equipment as required. Functions as mechanic when required. While working rotating shifts all meal periods and breaks shall be considered as paid, on-duty time. The employee will coordinate work activities with coworkers and the supervisor, as appropriate, to facilitate the applicable meal and break periods. While working rotating shifts, 12 hours per day, all meal periods and breaks shall be considered as paid, on-duty time. Advises Maintenance Supervisor of any abnormal or unusual equipment operating condition. Performs rigging tasks for crane and hand winch lifting. Erects and disassembles scaffolding as required. Maintenance Welder Prerequisites
High school education or equivalent, plus 5 years' work experience as a welder in an industrial environment, to include 2 years of fabrication experience. Effective verbal and written communication skills.Must pass practical welding test, conducted on site in the 6G position using pipe coupons. Tests must pass visual inspection by ASI's Authorized Inspector (AI) and are subject to bend or X-ray testing at an independent test facility. Capable of performing "SMAW" and "GTAW" welding processes as applicable to carbon steel, low alloy steels, and stainless steels (predominantly austenitic S.S. series 300).Essential Functions of the Job
Ability to perform light physical work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a frequent basis, and 20 pounds of force on an occasional basis, performing tasks requiring manual dexterity (such as keyboard and ten-key device operation), and such activities as grasping, lifting, reaching, crouching, standing, walking, running, climbing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, sitting, and repetitive tasks. The ability to discern assorted colors.
Working Conditions
Works in a remote solar power plant environment. Potential exposure to hot, cold, sudden change of temperature, dry, wet, dusty, dirty, quiet, noisy, and working alone or with others. Potential hazards include CTS, minor cuts, falls, eyesight and hearing impairment. Safety critical position.

SUMMARY
Responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of power plant and all associated instrumentation, electrical and DCS equipment in accordance with procedures, guidelines, and operating directives in effect. Provides appropriate direction, guidance, training, and supervision of assigned personnel in the accomplishment of company goals and directives. Oversees all facets of instrumentation and electrical systems and associated equipment maintenance. Responsible for the material conditions of each component and ensures that each functions correctly and reliably through programs of equipment inspection, repair, and system testing/troubleshooting. Coordinates with all departments to maintain peak performance of the power plant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned as needed)
- Adheres to, supports and complies with all company safety and environmental policies and practices. Ensures all employees, contractors and visitors conduct themselves safely and within company policies and regulatory guidelines.
- Assures proper working environment by maintaining discipline, morale, and employee relations. Prepares performance reviews and assist in salary recommendations and disciplinary recommendations.
- Understands and follows proper procedures for control and shipment of all hazardous waste streams.
- Directs all instrumentation/electrical/DCS preventative and corrective maintenance, including equipment overhauls and system modifications.
- Coordinates with company personnel, outside consultants and vendors to plan outages and new construction projects, ensure proper staffing, correct maintenance problems, startup new equipment.
-Provides technical guidance and direction to assigned personnel during completion of repairs, troubleshooting, and overhauls. Provides technical guidance to Maintenance and/or Site Manager.
- Documents equipment problems, writes work orders, work instructions and maintenance repair requests.
- Ensures immediate corrective action in response to emergency situations to minimize safety hazards and to reduce damage or downtime to the plant and its equipment. Calls employees to emergency duty upon assessing plant conditions and determining the necessity for additional support.
- Schedules overtime and vacation requests for assigned personnel. Reviews assigned personnel timecards.
- Helps identify, schedule, and direct corrective, predictive, and preventive maintenance as required on electrical, instrumentation, and/or DCS systems. Helps compile maintenance records and reports, and maintains a daily log.
- Reads, interprets, and implements technical information such as electrical drawings, manufacturer's data, and operating and maintenance procedures.
- Conducts crew maintenance technical training and oversees the completions of safety training requirements.
- Helps develop the instrument, electrical, and DCS portions of the maintenance budget. Monitors actual costs and compares these costs to budgetary estimates. Provides the necessary supporting documentation to justify any deviation from approved levels.
- Trains to improve personal skills and the skills of co-workers related to the job and/or required advancement.
- Responsible for completion of special tasks and projects assigned by Maintenance Manager.

Manages non-supervisory employees as assigned. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE - High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred but not required; completion of applicable technical or vocational training, including completion of an accredited electrical and/or instrumentation apprenticeship program; 5-7 years power plant maintenance experience. Desired qualifications: Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment, systems construction, capacities limitations, theories of operation and operating procedures. Knowledge of plant design and equipment locations, valve configurations, and normal range of flows, temperatures, levels, etc, for common production levels. Knowledge of complex instrumentation and automatic control systems. Safe use of tools, plant safety rules, probable causes of equipment and systems malfunctions. Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and water treatment systems. Standard knowledge of electrical test equipment and troubleshooting. Intermediate to advanced computer skills in word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions; procedure manuals; prints and engineering data; interpret charts, graphs and gauge scales; troubleshoot equipment and system problems; and interface with others.
