ABOUT THE POSITION
Primary Process Owner, who works closely with all aspects of Astec, Inc. operations (manufacturing, quality, OpEx and safety) to develop safe, efficient and reliable manufacturing methods. Identifies process improvement opportunities (productivity and reduce costs), allowing Astec to create a sustainable competitive advantage through the use of Kaizen, lean tools and methods. Leads cross functional events to analyze and deploy standards and techniques, to improve quality, ensure on-time delivery, control costs and/or other engineering/economic objectives; Applies visual and auditable, manufacturing best practices to solve problems, improve performance and productivity, while eliminating waste.
Deliverables & Responsibilities
· Develops, evaluates, and recommends improvements in manufacturing methods through new processes and modifications, minimizing cost and effectively applying production capabilities.
· Implements process improvements through time studies, process mapping, value-stream mapping, spaghetti mapping and workload balancing, through cross-functional team collaboration,
· Using standard lean tool sets, achieves safety and process improvements, through reductions cycle-time, rework, scrap, inventory, overtime, space, on-time completions, etc.
· Facilitates continuous improvements through the use of lean tools and coordinates lean training, development activities of all employees.
· Works with manufacturing to analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, material routing and handling methods, manufacturing processes and methods, machine and tool design applications, workflow and new technology and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency, safety and quality.
· Estimates production times, capacity requirements and related costs to provide information for management decisions and to meet completion dates and technical specifications.
· Develops proposals, evaluates new development programs and recommends changes in parts specifications, manufacturing processes and production methods and/or objectives to improve quality, productivity, manufacturability and safety as required.
· Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
· Responsible for the transition of new product introductions from engineering to manufacturing, including capacity analysis, process robustness and process validations.
· Develops and maintains the manufacturing process work instructions and assembly tooling that are initiated by product design or method improvement changes.
· Specify new equipment and design required fixtures, jigs and tooling needed to meet production and quality requirements.
· Prepares and makes presentations to individuals and groups using Microsoft Office applications.
· Researches, organizes, analyzes and maintains records of technical information from a variety of sources.
· Follows company policies and procedures at all times.

· Performs special projects other duties as assigned.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
· Bachelor’s degree in industrial, manufacturing, mechanical engineering or related field required.
· Zero to three (0-3) years related work experience in a manufacturing environment required with a demonstrated understanding of heavy machinery manufacturing processes.
· Knowledge of machine shop operations/processes required.
· Knowledge of LEAN methods used in manufacturing processes required.
· Knowledge of all types of metal-cutting processes, to include punch, plasma, and flame cutting required.

Primarily responsible for creating electrical drawings and associated documents in support of the Electrical Engineering Department. Works with various departments to determine customer requirements for electrical and control components.

Key Deliverables
· Prepares detailed 3-phase, single-phase and low-voltage DC electrical drawings including

Compensation and Benefits

Under general supervision of the Engineering Manager, the job of the Engineering Tech will be responsible for generating technical drawings for new machinery or improving existing machine designs.
Deliverables & Responsibilities
· Analyze operations and provide suggestions for possible opportunities to improve product and process.
· Utilize SolidWorks and Autodesk solid modeling software in conjunction with data management software interfaced with Epicor ERP.

The Controls Software Engineer will be a part of a dynamic team of engineers working on the development of control/automation code for heavy construction equipment, ranging from road pavers, road mills, woodchippers, etc. The engineer will be involved in the creation of product requirements, decomposition to software requirements, structured software decomposition, code development, software design reviews, and software unit and integration testing. The engineer will move from project to project as required and may be working on multiple projects within a given timeframe.
Software will be developed on PLCs, embedded controllers, and HMI displays. Some legacy systems are coded in Ladder Logic or using a graphical programming environment; but all new systems will be coded in either CodeSys or C/C++. The Control Software Engineer will work with the Electrical Engineer(s) on a project to map I/O, define necessary configurations, understand sensor input requirements as well as device output drive requirements. The Control Software Engineer will work cooperatively with the Electrical Engineer(s) and the Mechanical Engineer(s) to develop the appropriate control algorithms to produce the equipment functionality required by the customer and Product Management.
The Control Software Engineer will also work with other cross-functional teams, including but not limited to sales, manufacturing, purchasing, and service to ensure the successful completion of projects and launch of equipment.
The Control Software Engineer may at times be asked to travel for project testing and system integration testing, as well as to develop business relationships with customers, dealers, and suppliers. They may also participate in product focus groups to gain critical customer application and design suggestions to assist in the development of product lines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but not limited to)
· Use structured systems engineering approach for the development of the software used to control heavy construction equipment.
· Uses knowledge of process automation techniques to advance the simplicity of operation and troubleshooting of equipment to maximize productivity by enhancing operator functionality and the minimization of equipment downtime.
· Uses structured software design techniques to distill product requirements into product software specification, product software design, and product software test plan and creates the corresponding documents.
· Completes the controller/PLC programming and the HMI screen programming for product projects based on software design.
· Performs unit testing and integration testing of all controller/PLC/HMI systems to ensure performance and realization of all product requirements.
· Develops the software test plans for new designs and changes to existing designs, and coordinates the testing and validation using these plans,
· Contributes to the development of product documentation, including production work instructions, training manuals, troubleshooting guides, and product test plans.
· Identifies improvement opportunities and enhancements for product enhancements and/or cost reductions.
· Contributes to project teams to ensure the successful completion of project objectives, including schedule, budget, and feature set.
· Contributes to the development of new processes and procedures to enhance the software and hardware design capabilities and work products of the engineering team.
· Leads cross-functional software and HMI design reviews.
· Leads software design reviews for developed control software.
· Assist customers, via telephone or on site, to resolve function and/or application issues.
· Works with the Service Department to resolve field and warranty issues.
· Works with the Technical Publications Department to develop and update operation/parts/service manuals.
· Adheres to all Astec design and coding standards.
· Performs engineering calculations as required during design cycle.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
· Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Electrical / Computer Engineering or related field.

Field duties require that the employee work near heavy roadbuilding and construction equipment (dump trucks, loaders, cranes, crushers, pavers, cold planers, material transfer vehicles, stabilizers, wheel loaders, excavators, skidders, feller buncher, chippers, grinders etc.) and traffic associated with mines, road construction, forestry and recycling sites. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in this environment is usually loud and may require hearing protection.

ABOUT THE POSITION
Work is performed under the supervision of the Electrical Department Supervisor and in cooperation with the Electrical Department Leader.
Key Deliverables
· Install, repair, and maintain electrical components of industrial equipment.
· Perform quality testing and inspections.
· Observe safety procedures and meet electrical codes.
· Understand and apply blueprints and technical diagrams.
· Maintain logs, and record labor, material, and equipment used.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
· Serve as Electrician with technical knowledge requirements to maintain and repair such electrical equipment and facilities as: lighting, furnaces, controls, motors, hoists, lathes, drills, pumps, thermal relays, etc.
· Installation of rigid conduit, flexible power supply, and shielded cable.
· Repair of portable tools such as grinders, drills, and welders.
· Selection of proper wire sizes and types and replacement of electrical parts.
· Use trade techniques, publications, and the National Electrical Code as the guide for all work performed.
· Duties require knowledge of single-phase and three-phase AC and DC motor controls, both low and high voltage, and electrical schematics (AS and DC).
· Install transformers, breakers, and other controls, load centers, motors, lighting, etc. as required.
· Use established safety procedures and devices to protect yourself and others from electrical shock when repairing equipment.
· Use test equipment as required to assure proper circuitry, voltage, amperage, loading, etc. in the repair or maintenance of all electrical components.
· Job requires using a computer mouse to access and open/close computer documents.
· All duties must be performed in compliance with Company policies relating to safety and housekeeping.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
· HS Diploma or equivalent.
· Completion of a formal apprenticeship and valid electricians license required.
· 0-2 years of experience within the field of general maintenance or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Basic computer skills.
· Able to work all shifts and overtime as needed
· Able to lift repetitively up to 30 lbs.
· Able to stand for extended periods of time, bend, twist, turn and grasp.
