Job Description
The Data Engineer will serve as a foundational member of a rapidly growing AI and Data practice, responsible for building trusted, structured, and analytics-ready datasets that power dashboards and AI-enabled decision support. The initial assignment supports the Navy Portfolio Acquisition Executive (PAE) mission, leading mission and Industrial Base data enablement efforts. Over time, this role will expand to support dashboarding, analytics, and AI capabilities across the broader AI and Data practice.
This position focuses first on data readiness and reliability—turning fragmented, program-level data into trusted, structured, and tool-ready assets—while offering a clear path to grow into higher-order analytics and AI work. The Data Engineer acts as a trusted Technical Consultant, partnering directly with customers and leading ASI’s data engineering efforts across a range of projects.
Project Overview- Navy PAE
As a DOW, agency wide initiative, The U.S. Navy is modernizing its acquisition enterprise by transitioning from traditional Program Executive Offices (PEOs) to a new, integrated Portfolio Acquisition Executive (PAE) structure. This shift streamlines how the Navy develops and delivers advanced capabilities—such as munitions, drones, and emerging technologies—to meet evolving warfighter needs.
ASI is a key partner in the new DOW Transformation. ASI is supporting this transformation by helping the Navy stand up and operationalize the PAE construct, strengthening cross‑program coordination, accelerating capability delivery, and building a more adaptive, modern acquisition workforce. Each project under this initiative is unique, reflecting the Navy’s diverse and rapidly advancing mission areas.
Key Responsibilities
Mission Data Enablement
Identify, inventory, and map mission-critical data sources across Navy programs and stakeholdersIngest and consolidate Industrial Base and mission data across program officesClean, normalize, and categorize raw data into consistent data structures and taxonomiesDesign and maintain repeatable data pipelines for updates and refresh cyclesDefine schemas, validation logic, and quality checks to produce trusted dataPrepare datasets for ingestion into PAE tools and digital platformsDocument sources, assumptions, and transformations for downstream usePractice Growth & Advanced Enablement (Progressive Scope)
Support dashboard and visualization development with analysts and product teamsPrepare analytics-ready datasets for AI/ML solutionsContribute to shared data standards, reusable pipelines, and best practicesParticipate in solution design to ensure data architecture supports current and future analytics/AI use cases
Minimum Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Data Engineering, Data Science or related fieldStrong experience in data engineering, ETL, and/or data integrationExperience working with multi-source, program-submitted datasets3+ years cleaning and normalize raw unstructured data in structured consistent structures and taxonomies.5-10 years of experience working with Data Platforms, Databases & Tooling, such as:Experience working in cloud environments (GCP, AWS, and/or Azure), including data storage, processing, and analytics servicesHands-on experience with relational and analytical data platforms, such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, BigQuery, Snowflake, RedshiftExperience designing or supporting data lakes and object storage solutions (e.g., S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Data Lake)Familiarity with NoSQL databases and semi-structured data stores (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB, Cassandra or equivalent)Experience with parallel or distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, PySpark)Proficiency with Git-based version control (e.g., GitHub) and building or supporting data pipelinesInterest in expanding into dashboarding, analytics, and AI solutionsActive Secret clearanceWillingness to travel to Pax River, MD
