    Position Purpose

    The Senior Tax Manager is a key leader within the firm's tax practice and is responsible for managing client relationships, overseeing complex tax engagements, reviewing work performed by staff, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality tax services. This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to mentor and develop a highperforming team. The Senior Tax Manager will work closely with partners to identify planning opportunities, support business development efforts, and contribute to the continued growth of the practice.

    Position Responsibilities

    Client Management & Advisory
    Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, providing exceptional service and proactive tax guidance.Manage a portfolio of clients, including individuals, partnerships, corporations, S-corporations, and trusts.Identify tax-planning opportunities and advise clients on strategies to minimize tax liabilities.Build and maintain strong client relationships to support retention and growth.
    Tax Compliance & Review
    Oversee and review complex federal, state, and local tax returns prepared by staff and senior-level team members.Manage tax engagements from start to finish, ensuring compliance and timely delivery.Perform high-level technical reviews and ensure accuracy and completeness of all tax filings.Research complex tax issues and prepare technical memoranda to support firm positions.
    Leadership & Team Development
    Lead, coach, and mentor staff, seniors, and supervisors to support their professional development.Provide constructive feedback through formal and informal performance evaluations.Manage workflow, staffing, and deadlines to ensure projects are completed efficiently.Participate in training initiatives and help grow the technical knowledge of the tax team.
    Practice Growth & Business
    Development Collaborate with partners on proposals, presentations, and engagement scoping.Identify cross-selling opportunities and contribute to expanding client relationships.Participate in networking, professional associations, and community events to support business development efforts.
    Quality & Risk Management
    Ensure compliance with firm policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.Maintain thorough documentation and support for tax positions.Stay current on tax law changes and communicate relevant updates to clients and internal teams.
    Qualifications
    7+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting.Demonstrated success managing complex tax engagements and client relationshipsStrong technical knowledge of federal and multi-state tax lawsLearning mindsetPatience with staff and clients
    Skills and Competencies
    Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skillsStrong analytical and problem solving abilitiesAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast pace environmentHigh proficiency with tax software.

    The Role

    We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to join our collaborative, people-first team!

    As a Tax Senior Manager, you will serve as a primary technical resource and people leader within the tax department - overseeing complex engagements, developing managers and seniors, and acting as a main client contact for a portfolio of relationships. You will work closely with partners to manage risk, drive quality, and contribute meaningfully to the growth and culture of the firm.

    This role is ideal for a technically strong, client-focused professional who is ready to operate with a high degree of autonomy, lead difficult conversations, and help shape the next generation of Wilson Lewis talent.

    Key Responsibilities
    Oversee and review complex tax engagements for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trust, estates, and non-profits, ensuring the highest standards of technical accuracy and documentation before partner review.Serve as the primary technical resource for seniors and staff - remaining current on tax developments, leading internal training, and driving the team's technical proficiency.Act as a main point of contact for a portfolio of clients; maintain proactive communication throughout the year and attend client meetings independently as appropriate.Lead planning, budgeting, and staffing for engagements; monitor budget compliance across the team and communicate out-of-scope billing opportunities to partners early.Directly supervise seniors and staff during engagements - hold regular update meetings, provide timely and constructive review feedback, and ensure all workpapers are complete and signed off prior to partner review.Handle problems and conflicts on behalf of the team, offering solutions rather than simply escalating challenges, with minimal involvement from partners.Participate in prospective client meetings, assist with proposal development, and contribute to new business growth in accordance with annual targets.Conduct and support sophisticated tax research and write consultation memos as needed; leverage research projects to develop junior staff.Identify and communicate professional development opportunities for team members; ensure all direct reports have active career maps and receive regular, meaningful feedback.Make substantive contributions to the firm outside of direct client service - including recruiting, process improvement, software implementation, and staff development.
    Required Qualifications
    Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related fieldCPA license required8+ years of public accounting experience in tax, with demonstrated progression into a supervisory or leadership roleDeep technical knowledge across corporate, partnership, and individual taxationProven ability to manage multiple complex engagements simultaneously and meet deadlinesStrong client relationship skills with experience serving as a primary client contactDemonstrated ability to lead, develop, and motivate teams
    Preferred Qualifications
    Subject matter expertise in 2 or more industries or specialty tax areas (e.g., multi-state, high-net-worth individuals, non-profits, estates and trusts)Experience with CCH Axcess, UltraTax, QuickBooks, and Microsoft OfficeTrack record of contributing to business development or client expansion initiativesExperience with workforce planning, hiring, or performance management processes
