Operations Manager (OM) – Pavement Maintenance Operations

Appell Striping of Tampa Bay is seeking a driven, hands-on Operations Manager to help lead and grow our pavement maintenance operations. This is not a “sit behind a desk” management position. The ideal candidate is willing to lead from the front — helping manage operations while also working directly in the field alongside crews, especially during the early stages of growth.
The Operations Manager will oversee daily operations, scheduling, crew management, customer communication, and overall execution of projects while helping build a scalable operation. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in leadership, organization, production, and building a strong team culture.

Key Responsibilities
Operations & Project Management
Oversee daily scheduling of crews, trucks, equipment, and materialsCoordinate line striping, sealcoating, crack filling, pothole repair, and other pavement maintenance servicesEnsure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and professionallyAdjust schedules based on weather and project changesMaintain organization across field and office operationsEnsure projects are completed according to Appell standards
Hands-On Field Leadership
Work directly in the field on active jobs as neededAssist crews with production and job executionLead by example through hard work and professionalismHelp train newer crew members in the fieldBe willing to work early mornings, nights, weekends, and long shifts during peak seasonHelp bridge operational gaps while the company continues building and expanding crews
Crew Management & Team Development
Hire, train, and manage field employeesBuild dependable crews and strong company cultureHold team members accountable for quality and professionalismConduct daily production and jobsite coordinationEnsure crews maintain clean trucks, trailers, and equipmentPromote safety and efficiency across all operations
Sales & Business Growth Support
Assist with estimates and job walkthroughsHelp follow up on leads and proposalsIdentify opportunities for additional servicesSupport company growth initiatives and operational expansionHelp build long-term recurring commercial relationships
Customer Communication
Communicate professionally with customers, property managers, and clientsHandle customer questions and job updatesResolve issues quickly and professionallyEnsure a high-quality customer experience from start to finishHelp maintain long-term customer relationships
Financial & Operational Oversight
Help monitor labor, materials, and overall job efficiencyMaintain awareness of job profitability and production goalsEnsure crews operate efficiently and avoid unnecessary wasteAssist with invoice completion and project closeout proceduresHelp improve systems and operational organization as the company scales
Daily Responsibilities
Review schedules and coordinate crewsCommunicate with customers and field staffVisit and oversee active jobsitesAssist crews in the field when neededEnsure equipment and materials are readySolve operational issues quicklyMaintain quality control standardsSupport production and job completion
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications
Previous experience leading crews in construction, paving, asphalt maintenance, landscaping, utilities, or a similar fieldExperience operating trucks, trailers, and commercial equipmentStrong organizational and time management skillsExcellent communication and customer service skillsAbility to work independently and make sound decisions under pressureValid driver's license with a clean driving recordAbility to lift 75+ pounds and work outdoors in Florida weather
