Details Work in a 10-bed Surgical ICU (SICU) with float capability to the Trauma ICU (TICU) and other Sacramento-area facilities Acute care hospital setting at a Level II Trauma center Patient population includes postoperative vascular, thoracic, and open abdominal surgery patients, as well as those requiring CRRT and ECMO Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1 to 1:2 12-hour night shifts beginning at 6:45 AM report time; bedside report is standard Every other weekend required Holiday rotation shared with core staff First to float; mid-shift float to another Sacramento-area facility is possible but rare Charting via Cerner EMR Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7; hospitalist or intensivist in house No dedicated IV team; line placements are common on the unit Self-scheduling is used with manager balancing; schedules are posted 4 weeks in advance Requirements Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted Minimum 2 years of RN experience required Surgical ICU experience required, including exposure to CEA, fem-pop bypass, EVARs, laparotomies, and thoracic surgeries Ability to read and interpret EKG strips required Ventilator management experience required Cerner EMR experience preferred Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) prior to offer confirmation 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Copy of driver's license required for consideration Additional Information Responsibilities include postoperative care of primarily vascular and surgical patients, CRRT and ECMO management, and central line and other invasive line management Charge nurses are present and generally do not take a patient assignment but provide break relief; nurse aides are available as safety attendants (sitters) Floor orientation consists of 1–2 days with a preceptor A pass/fail skills test on sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered Scrub color is navy; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets are optional but must be navy if worn Local candidates are accepted for this position American Traveler Job ID P-685613.
