Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) – School Setting
Employment Types: Full-Time and Per Diem (On-Call)
Location: Newhall USD and other districts in Santa Clarita and Los Angeles
About the Role
We’re seeking compassionate, skilled Registered Behavior Technicians to provide 1:1 and small-group support to students in K–12 using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies. As an RBT in our school setting, you’ll implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs), collect high-quality data, and collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and families to help students meet academic, behavioral, and social goals.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Student SupportImplement ABA-based interventions, including skill acquisition and behavior reduction programs under BCBA supervision.Deliver support across general education and special education classrooms, resource rooms, and community-based instruction.Use proactive strategies (e.g., priming, functional communication training, visual supports, token economies, shaping) aligned with the student’s BIP.Support inclusion through classroom accommodations, prompting hierarchies, and fading plans.
Data & DocumentationCollect accurate, real-time data on target behaviors, replacement skills, goals, and generalization.Maintain thorough session notes and documentation compliant with
FERPA and district policies.Participate in progress review meetings; provide data summaries and insights to the BCBA and school team.
Collaboration & CommunicationPartner with teachers, school psychologists, counselors, speech and OT providers to coordinate supports.Communicate professionally with caregivers as directed by the BCBA/school team.Attend IEP/MTSS meetings as needed; contribute behavior data and implementation updates.
Crisis Prevention & SafetyUtilize Positive Behavior Supports and de-escalation strategies.Follow district protocols for health, safety, classroom management, and emergency response.Implement crisis plans only when trained and authorized; document incidents per policy.
Professional PracticeMaintain active RBT credential; adhere to BACB ethics and supervision requirements.Participate in ongoing training, fidelity checks, and performance coaching.
Qualifications
RequiredCurrent
Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential (BACB).High school diploma or equivalent (associate’s or bachelor’s preferred).Experience working with children/adolescents in educational or clinical settings.Ability to collect and interpret behavior data; proficiency with basic tech (tablets, web-based data systems).Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
PreferredExperience in K–12 schools and IEP team participation.Training in safety care/crisis prevention (e.g., CPI, Safety-Care).
Licensure & Compliance
Maintain RBT credential in good standing, including supervision hours and renewal.Pass background check, TB clearance, and meet district onboarding requirements.Comply with
FERPA, state education regulations, and BACB ethics.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between school sites (if applicable).
