Registered Nurse - Medical Intermediate Care Unit (MICU) Amergis Healthcare Services is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (MICU) to provide acute and specialized nursing care to medically complex patients in a hospital-based intermediate/critical care setting. This role includes direct patient care and leadership responsibilities, supporting patients from DPH, DMH, DOC, DDS, and community settings under the direction of the Nurse Manager. Position Details Location: Jamaica Plain, MA Facility: Lemuel Shattuck Hospital Facility Type: State Hospital Assignment Length: 13 weeks to start, with strong potential for extension Schedule: Mon-Fri and every other weekend/holiday, 3p-11:30p Start Date: 5/11 Compensation: Local: $75/hour Travel: $3,900 gross per week Key Responsibilities Implement the nursing process to assess, plan, coordinate, and deliver acute and specialized nursing care in the MICU. Provide direct care to patients requiring increased observation and medical intervention, including ventilated patients. Perform comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and spiritual assessments and develop individualized plans of care. Administer and monitor medications, including IV medications, TPN, antibiotics, analgesics, and medications for hypotension and ventilation management. Initiate and manage IV therapy, perform venipuncture, arterial sticks, and intraosseous access in emergency situations. Perform and interpret EKGs, monitor telemetry, analyze rhythm strips, and notify providers of life-threatening arrhythmias. Respond to Rapid Response Team (RRT) calls and Code Blue emergencies. Manage patients on ventilators with tracheostomies or endotracheal tubes. Provide leadership as charge nurse when assigned, supervising LPNs, Nursing Assistants, and support staff. Document all nursing interventions, assessments, and outcomes in compliance with Joint Commission, DPH, and state/federal regulations. Participate in quality improvement, risk management, and performance improvement initiatives. Assist PACU, GI, and IV Team operations as needed during off-hours or high-acuity periods. Provide culturally competent, age-appropriate, and patient-centered care. Maintain professional development through mandatory education, competency validation, and performance evaluation.
