The Certified Nursing Assistants work as members of the medical/nursing team to provide care to a mentally ill population.


    What You’ll Do

    Clinical Duties:

    Assist with patient intake, including vital signs, height/weight, and health history updatesPrepare patients for examinations and proceduresSupport providers during patient visits as neededObserve and report changes in patient condition to clinical staffAssist with specimen collection and basic lab procedures (if applicable)Maintain clean, safe, and organized exam roomsSupport behavioral health patients with appropriate sensitivity and confidentialityReinforce care plans and patient education under provider direction

    Behavioral Health Support Duties:

    The outpatient clinic in Fairbanks is a multi-disciplinary team who work together to provide comprehensive behavioral healthcare services to children, family, and adults who experience mental health challenges or life stressors.

    What You’ll Do

    Peer Support

    Provide support to address the needs of individuals who may require frequent additional support in recovery and wellness services.Contribute to assessment & service planning, individual & group skill building, crisis management, and rehab services.Works as a member of a highly collaborative team to help clients navigate and obtain services.

    Patient Navigator

    Support individuals seeking out service in navigating access to services with AKBH.Model and mentor treatment process and demonstrate coping skills, self-help strategies, problem-solving skills, behavioral support skills, and navigation of resources and service providers. Identify recovery persons’ abilities, strengths, and assess and assist them to recognize and use them. Assist caregivers in learning advocacy skills.

    Alaska Behavioral Health is one of the nation’s few National Child Traumatic Stress Network’s combined Category III treatment centers (The Alaska Child Trauma Center) and Category II, training and technical assistance centers (Rural Child Trauma Center). The Training Director works with an internal team of content experts in behavioral health and external national experts in behavioral health treatment to provide both external facing training (2 or more conferences per year, multiple learning communities, several dozen training events) and internal clinical training using an implementation science approach.The Training Director supports the ongoing professional development of AKBH staff to implement best practices and evidence-based treatment.

    What You’ll Do

    Responsible for submitting client billing charges (electronic and paper) and batching submissions for all payer types.Processes weekly Medicaid remittance advices (RAs). Processes Medicare and commercial insurance EOB’s. Posts payments to client accounts. Transfers balances to other payer sources as appropriate. Applies contractual adjustments as appropriate.Verifies initial prior authorization (PA) information submitted by providers. Scans processed PAs into the department’s internal system. Enters PAs into the agency’s billing software program. Responsible for updating exhausted PAs and obtaining additional PA units from the state’s fiscal agent.Researches all denials and initiates claims resubmissions. Initiates appeals when appropriate. Identifies refunds when applicable.Reviews monthly client statements with outstanding patient balances for accuracy. Research outstanding balances. Identifies needs for fee sets and/or additional payer source(s).Responsible for working past due accounts and reducing the aged receivables for all payer types. Responsible for auditing accounts for payments and adjustments and corrects when necessary.

PTO is utilized for observed holidays (eight holidays when outpatient operations are closed and two floating holidays per year). The position does not require weekends, evening shifts, or call.

    What We Need from You

    A minimum of a Master’s Degree from an accredited school and board certification in psychiatry.An unrestricted Alaska Registered Nursing License, Alaska Advanced Practice Registered Nursing License, prescriptive authority, and current DEA certificateQualified PAs, DOs, and MDs are encouraged to apply as well.Preference will be given to those with experience in community mental health.

    What You’ll Do
