    Project Controls Specialist

     

    We are searching for a Project Controls Specialist to join our team in our Denver, Colorado location. The Project Controls Specialist supports the Project Manager in controlling the projects, predicting and promptly suggesting corrections, improving actions in line with corporate procedures and working instructions. Supports company’s financial accounting by preparing reports and controlling activities ensuring they are carried out efficiently, effectively and in line with best practices.

     

    The general responsibilities are as follows:

     

    Performs as project controller, programing and managing project data, thereby providing progress and cost management during project execution.  Prepares and maintains the project cash flow in accordance with all project execution requirementsProvides computer input and performs analytical review of reports generated.Accumulates and accesses historical data, such as performance experience, for use in maintaining a realistic basis for future planning and forecasting.Routinely provides accurate cost documenting and leads the cost distribution process for capital projects.Develops and maintains critical path logic networks and bar charts utilizing this information.Analyzes, evaluates, and forecasts current status against an established baseline schedule.Insures accuracy and completeness of master data including resource information; project activity, and coding; enterprise project structure;Prepares graphs, diagrams, and other exhibits to illustrate cost status and forecast requirements for project management and client.Performs analytical review and arithmetic checks of cost reporting documentation.Participates in the development of the work breakdown structure, interfacing with Procurement, Engineering, and Finance Departments.Prepares and processes input to the cost control system for all cost reports.Develop an effective project plan template that can be utilized for schedule development, schedule control, and critical path analysis.Other duties as assigned.

    Associate or Bachelor’s Degree with specialized course work in business or any equivalent combination of related education and experience.

     

    5 – 8 years of progressively responsible business, office, project management, project controls- related experience; experience in dealing with high-level clients and project managers with demonstrated ability for independent judgment; multi-tasking and prioritization skills; ability to adapt, and overcome obstacles with an eye for solutions.

     

    Familiarity and ability to use CRM and/or ERP software/SAP (especially SAP PS module).  Must be proficient in a standard scheduling tool such as or similar to, Primavera (P6)/Primavera Online (P8) or Microsoft Project.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook Calendar, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Must be proficient in coordinating and management of basic office systems. Knowledge and skill in working with modern office terminology, procedures, equipment, and records management.

     

    Knowledge of research methods and techniques, general math, and English composition.

    SUMMARY:

    Performs structural engineering analysis and design in order to meet project and client requirements in the mining industry by performing the following duties.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

     

    1.          Demonstrates technical expertise in disciplinary field

    2.          Meets task or project time and budget goals

    3.       Using prescribed methods, performs specific and limited portion of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer. Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.

    a.          Responsible for the structural design, design criteria and code compliance for entire structural systems or projects

    b.          Uses experience to assist in initial structural layouts and beam sizing

    c.           Uses experience to help with material take‐off estimates for proposals

    d.          Communicates necessary structural information such as member sizes, connection, and welds, to others for the preparation of project drawings and specifications

    e.          Understand material specifications for the structure and has a developed understanding of relevant steel codes and building codes

    f.             Develops and communicates structural details of connections, and proposes alternate framing solutions to structural systems as required

    g.          Perform structural analysis and design of structures such as steel supports for conveyors, crushers, screens, tanks, pipes and other equipment, and their foundations where appropriate

    h.          Prepare design criteria, including all relevant loads on the structure

    i.             Prepare structural 2D and 3D drawings in CAD software

    j.             Prepare material take‐offs and bill of material lists

    k.           Review vendor documents for structural components

     

    COMPETENCY:

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

     

    Minimum Education/Experience:

     

    Bachelor’s Degree (Structural) in Engineering from an accredited college or university. Six or more years related experience.

    License P.E. in good standing (desired, but not required) 

     

    Preferred Education/Experience:

    Master’s Degree form an accredited college or university desired, not required. Knowledge of mining and /or bulk material handling industries.

     

    Computer Skills/Experience:

    Drawing Software: 2D & 3D using AutoCad, Advance Steel, SolidWorks (desired but not required). Design Software: RISA‐3D or similar.

     

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Reviews designs of other structural engineers for code and design specification compliance. Uses experience to suggest initial structural layouts to other disciplines. Mentors structural engineering interns and other beginning structural engineers.

     

    JOB ELEMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for long periods, talk and hear. The employee is required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus with an emphasis on ability to view a computer screen for long periods, with periodic breaks. Travel may be required for various projects both nationally and internationally.

     

    Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in an office setting with in‐person and telephone contacts and may involve frequent interruptions. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate.
