The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) will serve as a key member of the patient care team in an ambulatory setting. This position will work closely with providers across multiple specialties as well as with other clinical and administrative staff to deliver an exceptional patient experience that contributes to positive health outcomes for patients and a work culture of service orientation, trust, empathy, safety, and inclusion.Clinical Duties Greet and interact with patients, visitors, vendors, and all faculty and staff in a courteous, helpful, professional, and ethical manner.Prepare patients for their visit including:Pre-visit organization of information required for an efficient in-office experience, performing patient escort and rooming functions (taking vital signs, medication reconciliation, accurate documentation of chief complaint, updating history as requested, updating EMR (Epic) as required).Providing instructions to patients in a manner that facilitates efficient patient safety and standard operations for the practice.Assisting patients as needed with walking, dressing, collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing, preparing for exam, etc. Serving as a chaperone in the exam room as requested.Assisting physicians or other clinical staff with examinations, procedures, and department-specific therapies as requested.Performing phlebotomy duties and point-of-care tests such as urinalysis and pregnancy tests.Preparing and labeling collected specimens and ensuring timely delivery of specimens to appropriate designation.Ensuring that proper labs are drawn and documented via Epic. Assisting in troubleshooting missing labs from Epic as instructed by supervisor.Entering orders in Epic as required.Managing a smooth clinic flow by assessing and anticipating physician schedules and using clinical space effectively.Notifying physicians and nurses of emergencies and performing first aid.Front Desk Support Duties Collaborate with Front Desk staff to expedite the delivery of quality patient care, provide an excellent patient experience and promote patient flow. Duties include:Managing and tracking the patient flow from arrival until exam room departure using an EMR system, including welcoming and informing patients of any delays.Serving as a liaison between physicians and other individuals such as patients.Preparing and maintaining medical charts.Copying and mailing requests for medical records, ensuring HIPAA compliance.Performing additional check-out functions such as scheduling, referrals, and additional tasks as needed.Answering telephone calls and taking accurate phone messages.QualificationsHigh school graduate or equivalency and graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program, plus specialized certifications as needed.CMA must be certified by a credentialing body.Current BCLS/AED certification required.Strong commitment to fostering diversity and equity.Must have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to deescalate stressful situations.Must be an engaged team member, demonstrating collaboration, inclusion, reliability, punctuality, and adaptability to new and changing situations.Basic proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email systems, etc.Must be a motivated individual with a positive mindset and exceptional work ethic.Will provide coverage as requested throughout practices (multiple sites and flexible schedule) Read Less

ColumbiaDoctors’ practices comprise an experienced group of more than 2,800 physicians, surgeons, dentists, and nurses, offering more than 240 specialties and subspecialties.Opportunity to grow as part of the Practice Associate Career Ladder!Job Responsibilities:Greet patients and visitors and answer telephone calls.Review the daily and weekly schedule frequently to ensure the accuracy of the visit provider, appointment duration, patient insurance participation status with the visit provider, visit reason, and visit type.Obtain all required registration and intake information from patients necessary for an efficient check-in process; verify and/or update any new insurance eligibility, benefits, or other information prior to the start of the patient appointment in the electronic health record (EHR); accurately indicate arrivals, cancellations, and no-shows in the EHR.Respond to financial information inquiries such as explanation of charges, out-of-network benefits, out-of-pocket expenses, and related activities.Coordinate and schedule office visits and procedures. Schedule ancillary services on behalf of the patient and prepare requisitions.Schedule follow-up appointments, referrals, and other related tests as requested by the provider in a timely and accurate manner. Obtain prior authorizations and referrals for follow-up care as needed by the insurance plan.Collect all time-of-service and past-due payments prior to the start of the appointment. Conduct follow-ups as needed.Provide cross coverage as directed by Supervisor/Manager.Provide general administrative support to physicians and Supervisor/Manager.Assist with training and onboarding of new staff as directed.Job Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalency is required.A minimum of 6 months of relevant experience.Working knowledge/proficiency in medical terminology.Proficiency and/or understanding of medical billing and up-to-date insurance eligibility.Good organizational and problem-solving skills and the ability to set priorities among multiple competing objectives, tasks, and initiatives are required.Strong customer service orientation and the ability to deliver consistently exceptional service.Excellent relationship management skills including, but not limited to, emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to handle situations with respect, tact, and sensitivity.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Working proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) or similar software is required, as an ability and willingness to learn new systems and programs.Prior experience in EHR is preferred.Prior experience in a customer service environment is preferred.Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
