    We have an immediate opportunity for a Substation Project Engineer in the Orange County Area. The Substation Project Engineer must understand and can complete all technical requirements of a basic to moderate complexity substation projects.

     

    Specific Duties:

    Developing design deliverables including substation physical layouts, material lists, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation grounding, and major equipment wiring diagrams.Preparation of engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports, and designs for electrical substations (Low, Medium and High Voltage).Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing.Coordinating design activities with other departments (Civil, Structural, Transmission Line, etc.).Assigns tasks and provides guidance to junior team members, and coordinates QC reviews for work performed by junior level engineers and/or designers.Work with Senior Engineers and the Business Class Leader to identify and develop specific technical expertise and will attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline.Responsible for quality control reviews of projects from other teams on an as needed basis.Works independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise efforts of less-experienced EIT's and/or Designers.Performing site visits during the design, construction, and as-built phases of projects.Perform other duties as needed.

     

    Required Qualifications:

    Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required.5+ years of substation design experience required, including both indoor and outdoor experience with emphasis on indoor experience.Proficient with Microsoft Office.Previous consulting firm experience desired.Willingness to travel when required.An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.PE certification.Experience using industry design software including AutoCAD, MicroStation, CDEGSStrong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to manage construction projects by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors, field staff, and sub-contractors.

     

    Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

    Directly oversees job site personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work schedules and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delaysWorks with Project Manager and Scheduler in the development and refinement of the project schedule to keep the schedules properly updated and see that the job meets the completion date while meeting budgetResponsible for approving all expenses for each assigned job; ensure they are applied to the proper job and phase codeStudies specifications to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion timesOrders procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specific times to conform to work schedulesInspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedulesPrepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used, costs and adjusts work schedules as indicated on reportsCompletes Daily Field Production Reports on a daily basisMonitors contract compliance for each job to ensure the company is protected regarding liabilities matters and liensRequired to participate in resolving labor disputes and related negotiations are requiredResponsible for obtaining signed change orders when appropriate and submitting to their Managers and Accounting for processingProvide directions to the A/R department to ensure invoices are properly and timely createdEnsures company employees and subcontractors are adhering to the company safety policy

     

    Qualifications and Experience

    We have an immediate opportunity for a Senior Substation Engineer in Orange County. This is an excellent growth opportunity for a self-directed Electrical Engineer who is eager to take on new challenges.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Responsible for knowledge and execution of the technical aspects and deliverables of projects.Develop a partnership with the PM. The PM is responsible for the scope, schedule, budget, and client management. This position will be responsible for the technical execution of the project.Assign project tasks and provide technical guidance to the project team members.Coordinate and perform quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables per the Quality Management Systems requirements, processes, and procedures.Perform quality checks and reviews of projects from other teams as needed.Ability to work independently and direct, mentor, and train Electrical Engineers, Graduate Engineers, and Drafters.Ability to work on and lead multiple projects concurrently.Assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase your technical capabilities at industry events.

     

    Education and Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree required, or Master’s degree desired in Electrical Engineering.PE required.10 years plus of technical experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects of varying complexity up to 765V preferred including at a minimum, conceptual knowledge of physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components as well as knowledge of IEC, IEEE, ASNI, and other applicable design and equipment standards.Specific experience performing aspects associated with substation design including substation layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lighting protection, control building arrangement, conduit plans and details, auxiliary AC/DC power systems and associated bill of materials.Strong computer skills, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Microsoft Office and electrical design software.Previous experience doing distribution systems, substation, and power facilities design and engineering is required.Experience working in an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired.Previous experience consulting or working for an electric utility considered a plus.

    Bachelor’s degree required/Master’s degree preferred in electrical engineering with an Electrical/Power emphasis.Knowledgeable with electrical power system analysis, electrical system planning, protective device application, setting and substation design required / experience preferred.Professional Engineer (PE) license.Knowledgeable with power system analysis software: CAPE, ASPEN, ETAP along with CYME and SKM required / experience desired.Strong computer skills, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and electrical design software.Confident verbal communication and writing skills.Strong attention to detail, ability to take initiative and be self-motivated.
