This position is a tiered position. Incumbents will have a position level assigned based on their skills and experience, and in alignment with position development plans. Position placement is at Amtrak's sole and absolute discretion.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Track Standards performs special trackwork design; develops plans, sketches and specifications for the procurement of highspeed, passenger railroad turnouts and crossovers. They review vendor shop drawings for compliance with the designs. Request SAP numbers and create descriptions. Scanning and/or filing of suppliers drawings for future reference.
* Designs special trackwork for track renewal and new track construction.
* Using CAD drafting software, develop special trackwork construction drawings.
* Capable of prioritizing work, juggling multiple projects, working independently and delivering designs on time
* Participates in field inspections to investigate situations before making engineering recommendations.
* Creates standard plans and develops new specifications.
* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Civil or Industrial Engineering and at least 5 years relevant, progressive work experience.
* Microsoft Word and Excel.
* At least 1 CAD software package.
* Industry leadership or participation in AREMA, TTCI, or other technical society.
* Experience with railroad operations.
* Background in manufacturing, material science or metallurgy
* Qualified in AMTRAK RWP and AMT II.
* Microstation Verison 5
* Basic knowledgee of SAP
COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
* Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Be able to participate in meetings with other departments at various levels to to make sure all expectations are met.
